Child/Family Therapist
DEPARTMENT: Wassaja Family Services
REPORTS TO: Director, Wassaja Family Services
DEFINITION/PURPOSE:
Provides family-based counseling, intervention, and specialized therapy as well as individual, group, and couples work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential functions include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.
TASKS:
Assess, develop and provide counseling and therapy to children and families (in office and homes); complete bio-psycho-social assessments and treatment plans; write reports; attend court sessions to provide recommendations for treatment and/or disposition.
Develop and implement plans to re-integrate children into the family; work with youth or families struggling with substance abuse issues; develop and/or provide parenting skills programs; work at times outside normal business hours; perform other duties as assigned or required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
· Knowledge and skills in providing outpatient therapeutic services to children and adolescents.
· Knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural issues within this community;
· Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate counseling, psychotherapeutic, and crisis management models and techniques;
· Skill in conducting bio-psycho-social assessments, or other child-focused assessment, developing treatment plans, and assessing treatment effectiveness;
· Skill in conducting psycho-educational groups;
· Effective oral and written communication skills;
· Skill in interacting with clients from various social, economic, cultural, spiritual and psychological backgrounds;
· Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships within Wassaja Family Services and with other departments of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, service providers, and state and Federal agencies;
· Skill in handling and overseeing a complex caseload;
· Knowledge of tribal and federal confidentiality and child welfare statutes, rules, case law and policies;
· Skill in establishing and maintaining confidential records and information;
· Knowledge of community and social service resources and programs;
· Skill in operating a personal computer and ability to utilize word processing and database software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:
1. Masters degree in social work, psychology, sociology or a related field.
2. Three years (five years preferred) experience in a mental health or social services environment as a child, adolescent and or family therapist/counselor, or drug & alcohol counselor specializing in working with youth;
3. Current Arizona license in good standing, as a behavioral health professional;
4. Current Arizona driver’s license and ability to meet FMYN insurance standards;
5. Prefer person to be licensed to provide mental health and substance abuse services;
6. Prefer person to have experience working in Tribal communities.
PAY RATE: $63,140.45 to $75,768.55
