Job Description
We are looking to bring on a reliable Chief Estimator to join our team. The Chief Estimator has the overall responsibility for the creation of budgets and estimates produced by the Estimating Team, as well as for general oversight and management of the Estimating Department. The Chief Estimator is responsible for the oversight of the estimating process for all projects (including procedures, methods, and processes for estimating).
The Chief Estimator analyzes past project performance to establish and revise estimating standards for all future estimates via use of historical cost database and estimating software. The Chief Estimator has final word on procedures, processes, techniques and personnel decisions for assigned projects. They work with the Vice President of Operations, President, and Senior Projects Managers on deliverables (such as bid packages, budgets, etc.)
Responsibilities
- Reviews general conditions, schedule, scopes of work, hoisting plans, site logistics and other exhibits needed to compile the bid (may prepare conceptual budgets as well)
- Coordinates with other stakeholders to ensure bid meets guidelines: insurance agent, bonding company, surveying, HR, safety, procurement, contracts, trucking, vendors, etc.
- Builds and maintains effective relationships with customers, design team, specialty contractors, suppliers, internal team and to be able to bid future business
- Coordinates the preparation and review of work plans as requested, as well as periodic project reviews and pricing of Change Orders
- Assigns responsibilities for estimating team on each project
- Identifies risk issues and their order of magnitude
- Reviews project plans and specifications, coordinates with team to confirm complete scope
- Prepares instructions to bidders, bid form, and other bid solicitation information as required
- Manages and develops their team - communicates information and delegates tasks to staff, mentors and coaches others, rewards and disciplines as appropriate
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering OR Construction Management
- 15+ years of estimating or project experience on heavy civil projects (10 years of civil engineering estimating experience)
- Proficient in relevant estimating software - (HCSS HeavyBid/HeavyJob, AgTek) and office software (MS Windows, MS Office, Adobe/BlueBeam)
- Expertise in Project Management & Estimating of heavy civil projects (bridges, roadways, utilities, grading, tunnels/structures)
- Excellent Organization & Time Management Skills
- Excellent Communication Skills
- Able to travel (must have own vehicle, satisfactory driving record, valid license, and insurance)
- Due to government contracting requirements, this individual must be a U.S. Citizen

Pay: $140,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
