Job Description

The role of the Director of Marketing- To direct and oversee all sales and marketing activities with the support of teams including: Sales, Catering, Conference Services, Public Relations, Marketing Communications, Reservations and Revenue Management for the Hotel and ensure that all activities and bookings are focused to yield maximum revenue per room occupied as well as maximize revenue in all ancillary areas including but not limited to Catering, and Spa.
To develop the local Hotel brand and narrative including: the position in the market, the storytelling and subsequent programming. To be able to execute and effectively communicate strategies and tactics employed to all key stakeholders, including Ownership, the Hotel team and our Corporate Office.
This position requires results-oriented interaction with a wide variety of people. It is forward looking, broad in scope, and requires a pro-active mindset to execute strategies and tactics by harnessing all available resources, and seeking incremental resources where the anticipated ROI justifies such action. JOB FUNCTIONS:
People Leadership Skills
1. Recruit high-performing talent for all marketing department personnel with particular emphasis on department head positions.
2. Train marketing department personnel in the performance of their duties as to specific position responsibilities, performance techniques, reporting procedures, etc.
3. Conduct performance evaluations and build a culture of continuous team development including specific development plans for Department Heads and other identified top talent.
4. Build a positive working environment with a high-performing and motivated team.
Maximize Hotel Revenue
5. Implement activities that positively impact hotel Rev Par performance.
6. Monitor competitive hotels to ensure continual market share improvement.
7. Develop, co-ordinate, and implement programs to increase profitable sales in all product areas.
8. Monitor and identify current and future business trends to ensure profitable sales in periods of low and high demand.
9. Manage the hotel's yield management approach in partnership with Director of Revenue Management, including pricing, segmentation and event space management.
10. Ensure favourable business terms and accuracy of definite bookings, as well as, the wellbeing of corporate and other key accounts.
Marketing
11. Review and monitor competitive hotels and independent catering venues; formulate recommendations on product and service enhancements to surpass the competition in each area of the business.
12. Identify sources of business available to the hotel and establish priority marketing opportunities in the pursuit of that business.
13. Understand the different needs of market segments and implement strategies/programs as appropriate to maximize profitability.
14. Analyse the Hotel's capabilities and identify the direct sales, advertising, and public relations programs necessary to attract the maximum volume of desired business (rooms, catering, outlets, spa, etc.)
15. Develop and implement the Annual Marketing Plan.
16. Analyse and abreast of market trends and respond as needed.
17. Develop marketing programs consistent with Four Seasons style and image.
18. Initiate and supervise the evolution of all sales and marketing office procedures and ensure hotel is in compliance with all Four Seasons Sales and Marketing Minimum Operating Standards.
19. Prepare, monitor and control the annual advertising and business promotion (A&BP) budget.
Sales
20. Solicit and service selected accounts with a focus of ROI
21. Participate in designated trade, service and community association and clubs.
22. Provide "one up" sales assistance for all key accounts and to act as the hotels sales leader in the closing of businesses, sales calls, entertaining, site inspections, etc.
Managing Sales Activity
24. Serve as hotel’s key contact with organizations such as convention and business bureau, governmental business bodies and key airline accounts.
25. Set and monitor all quotas for sales activities and production for direct sales personnel.
26. Develop and approve travel schedules and budgets.
27. Implement and monitor an effective prospecting program leveraging all available tools
28 Review the performance of each sales person and audit key account activity.
29. Effectively administrate the company's sales incentive plan.
30. Develop and maintain a succession plan for management positions in Sales and Marketing.
31. Co-ordinate sales activities with WSOs.
32. Determine staffing requirements, sales deployment, and areas of responsibility and manage the performance of assigned staff according to their respective job descriptions.
Internal Communications
33 Maintain a cooperative working relationship with all departments; particularly embracing those with mutual guest contact by being a global leader within the hotel.
34. Participate in meetings with Planning Committee and Department Heads, disseminating information on sales activities, special bookings, business forecasts, competition, etc.
35. Communicate with Corporate Marketing, Worldwide Sales Offices and other Four Seasons Hotels regarding new marketing opportunities, competitor activities, etc.
36. Prepare reports and presentations as required by the General Manager, Corporate Office and Ownership.
Hotel Systems
37. Enhance marketing effectiveness through improvements in automation.
38. Utilize computerized operational systems (Golden Sales & Catering, Ideas, BI RevFinder, etc)
39. Ensure accurate tracking of business segments/markets.
40. Implement systems to ensure sales and marketing programs achieve projected results including reviewing Golden Audits.
41. Understand, utilize and supervise the installation of automated sales and reservations systems.
Promotions - Advertising - PR
42. Develop special promotional programs to stimulate trial and generate revenue.
43. Direct and manage the hotel’s utilization of existing and emerging social media tools to include but not limited to Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and online reviews (i.e. trip advisor). Review Revinate and respond accordingly.
44. Lead the development of collateral and ensure that Four Seasons’ standards are maintained.
45. Ensure all advertising conveys the desired image and message.
46. Maintain appropriate crisis communication plan for the Hotel.
47. Maintain open, regular communication with advertising agency/media to provide constant input as to the needs of the hotel.
48. Work with the Director of Public Relations/Marketing Communications to ensure that the Hotel receives maximum exposure in appropriate media.
49. Provide guidance to ensure favorable attitudes toward the hotel and Four Seasons Hotels.
50. Report to the General Manager and Corporate Office any significant activity with which the hotel may wish to become involved.
51. Develop the advertising and business promotion budget in conjunction with the Annual Marketing Plan. Monitor all expenditures adhering to the advertising budget.
Business Involvement
52. Administer department activities within the approved budget with evaluation on a monthly basis.
53. Review and approve all sales and catering team expense accounts.
54. Approve all purchase requests for the Marketing Department.
55. Directly involvement in forecasting and continuously be aware of current and forecasted financial/business performance.
56. Analyse financial/business performance vs forecasts/budget and make the required changes if necessary.
57. Understand, maximise use of, and properly control A& BP budget.

Qualifications
Education:
4-year university/college degree (or equivalent).
Experience:
3 – 5 years of employment as a Director of Sales & Marketing, or in a related position.
Skills and Abilities:
Requires strong revenue cultivation and budget management skills, vision and the ability to communicate effectively with ownership.
Travel required:
Available to travel as needed/required based on specific property needs.
Hours required:
