Location: Remote in U.S. or Hybrid Portland, OR (preferred)
Hours: Full time
Starting Salary: $65,750 - $80,750 annually

Forth’s continued growth has created a new opportunity on our Organizational team for an individual with a talent for managing budgets and financial reporting. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Grant Fund Management & Reporting (~40%)
Working closely with the Senior Finance Manager, The Grants Accountant oversees financial compliance, communications, and team education for Forth’s grant-based funding.
- Monitor grant spending, ensure compliance with donor requirements, and assist with budget revisions.
- Provide financial reporting support for grant agreements and facilitate effective communication between teams.
- Ensure financial grant compliance, and offer training and support to staff.
- Aid in the compilation of invoice schedules including the preparation of supporting documentation, and ensure the timely submission of invoices to both federal and non-federal funders.
Financial Accounting and Reporting (~30%)
Working closely with the Senior Finance Manager, the Grants Accountant plays a pivotal role in financial accounting and reporting, which includes:
- Month-End Close Assistance: Provide support during the month-end close processes and actively contribute to the preparation of internal financial statements.
- Journal Entry Preparation: Compile data and supporting documents to prepare monthly journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
- Balance Sheet Reconciliation: Reconcile balance sheet accounts with detailed schedules; take appropriate action to clear reconciling items.
- Financial Analysis & Research: Review monthly accruals for accuracy, research historical data, and make adjustments as needed.
- Audit Support: Provide assistance with audit requests as required, including documentation.
Budget Management (20%)
The Grants Accountant plays a key role in budget preparation and management.
- Monitor budget performance, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
- Collaborate with Program Managers to articulate changes and updates in the budget to support informed business decisions and to foster financial transparency and accountability.
Other Projects (10%) Other responsibilities as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements:
- Passion: A passion for Forth’s mission and values and a desire to deepen your understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Experience: 3-5 years of accounting experience, with a strong preference for nonprofit accounting.
- Location and Travel:
- Portland, Oregon; or,
- Remote in the U.S., must be willing and able to travel to Portland, Oregon, 3-4 times a year for all staff meetings and team building events
- Able to maintain a safe home office environment
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Software Skills: Proficient in financial software and advanced Excel.
- Teamwork: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Helpful (but not required):
- Experience working with Federal & State Grants
- Experience in public accounting
- Certification: CPA certification or candidate status preferred, but not required
- Experience with Quickbooks and/or MIP fund Accounting
COMPENSATION
Starting salary range is $65,750 - $80,750 annually, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits include four weeks paid vacation annually, fully paid health, dental and vision insurance for the employee and all dependents and an employer retirement contribution after six months (no match required).
