Job Description
Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant/Medical Assistant
Location: Terre Haute, Indiana 47807
Reports to: Clinic Manager
SUMMARY: Provide assistance to patients, providers and staff by providing clinical and/or front office assistance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
1. Clinical Assistance:
a. Collaborates with the provider to determine nursing needs of the patient.
i. Prepares patients for examination and treatment.
ii. Provides for patient comfort.
iii. Monitors physiological status.
iv. Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments.
v. Performs initial screening of patients.
vi. Assists with medical treatment of patients.
vii. Provides emergency first aid measures.
b. Demonstrate knowledge of clinic policy and procedures as directed by the Clinic Manager
i. Use correct procedures and techniques in providing patient care.
ii. Use appropriate reference material, such as Policy Manual, Procedure Manual, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), etc.
iii. Demonstrate knowledge of the use of equipment needed for rendering direct patient care.
c. Assist providers in preparing room and patients for procedures including EKG’s and administering medications within scope of medical assistant.
2. Assists with scheduling of tests, treatments, and referrals to specialists at external locations.
3. Screens telephone calls for referral to provider.
4. Recognizes and maintains the confidentiality of staff, patient and clinic information according to HIPAA regulations.
5. May refill patients’ prescriptions and notify patient of test results as directed/permitted.
6. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
7. Actively participates as a member of Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) care team(s) and supports PCMH efforts and initiatives.
8. Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to EKG testing, collection of blood and urine specimens, wound care, performing CLIA waived testing, dressing applications and changing, suture and staple removal, duties related to vaccine preparation, administration, and record keeping.
9. Actively participates in risk management activities and follows proper procedure to reduce risk and ensure patient safety.
10. Complies with WVHC policies and procedures.
11. Actively participates in relevant WVHC trainings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited program for medical assistants preferred.
Current medical assistant certification/registration preferred, but not required.
Three (3) years of experience in a similar setting preferred, but not required.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and providers.
Flexible in work schedule to meet the demands of the department.
CPR certification required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
