Position: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
Reports to: Larry Gibbs
Job Classification: Non-Exempt, Hourly, Regular Full-Time
Typical Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 to 5:00
Pay range: $23.00 to $28.00 per hour.

Northwest Gastroenterology is looking for a Full-Time CMA to join our Gastroenterology team as soon as possible! CMA - GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the delivery of patient care as directed by the physician and/or mid-level provider. Under supervision, the MA assists in the delivery of medical care to the patient in compliance with and understanding of that care and assists in running an efficient and professional practice. Understands and abides by all Corporate Compliance, HIPAA, Security policies and code of conduct by displaying ethical behavior as it applies to the scope and authority of the job. The MA will work directly with Providers, Practice Manager, and other staff, but must be able to work independently.
CMA - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Rooms patients and obtains vitals. Prepares patients, including assisting patients into the examination room, providing necessary equipment, and setting up the clinical space for treatment procedures.
- Ensures appropriate patient paperwork, tests, etc. are available for provider to review at time of appointment
- Within the MA's professional credentialing and the defined scope of practice in the WA state RCW, the MA will provide clinical support, patient care support and documentation in the treatment and management of the patient
- Preparing or and assisting in sterile procedures within scope of practice
- Delivers immunizations, medications, and injection within scope of practice
- Handles patient questions by phone or in person and when necessary escalates to the Practice Manager with appropriate documentation in the patient chart.
- Orders, tracks, and documents tests performed, including completion of all required forms, recording test results, and verification of appropriate documentation
- Orders medication refill within scope of practice and per established policies and procedures
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment consistent with OSHA, infectious disease controls and Northwest Gastroenterology standards.
- Ensures examination rooms are appropriately stocked with supplies and maintained in an orderly appearance, including, unpacking, storing supplies, and notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed
- Demonstrates knowledge of emergency equipment (location, use, and maintenance)
CMA - SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
CMA - EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Current Washington State certification in good standing (CMA or MA-C),
- CPR/BLS certification is required.
- 1 year of medical office experience preferably in a clinic setting. Must stay current in knowledge base, certifications and licenses required.

Occasionally, additional work hours may be required and/or hours may be shortened as needs dictate.

After medical school, we completed residencies in general internal medicine before pursuing specialized fellowship training in digestive diseases. All of our partnered physicians are Board-certified in gastroenterology.
We evaluate and treat many symptoms, including swallowing disorders, heartburn, abdominal pain and gas, gastrointestinal bleeding, nausea and vomiting, anemia, constipation, diarrhea, and unexplained weight loss. Some of the many diseases we specialize in are gastro-esophageal reflux (GERD), Barrett’s esophagus, H. pylori infection, celiac disease, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, hepatitis, cirrhosis, gallbladder problems, bile duct cancers, pancreatitis, carcinoid, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, microscopic colitis, colon polyps, and colon cancer. We also screen for colon cancer via colonoscopy.
We can perform procedures to inspect most areas of the digestive system. During procedures, interventions can be performed including tissue sampling, small intestine fluid collection, balloon or tapered bougie dilation, expandable stent placement, and polyp removal.
As the only single-specialty gastroenterology clinic in Bellingham, we have an experienced team of physicians, physician assistants, advanced nurse practitioners, nurses, and support staff to provide you with exemplary care through every step of your evaluation. Our integrated electronic health record system will allow us to offer quick turnaround for labs, prescription requests, and endoscopy and consultation reports.
