Position Summary
The Contract and Grant Accounting department, located within Financial Services, has an exciting opportunity for an Accountant 1 and an Accountant 3 position within the organization.

CGA’s mission is to provide professional expertise and quality customer service to the UNM community on externally sponsored funding. CGA interprets and implements UNM policies related to contracts and grants as well as reviews and interprets policies of outside private and governmental funding agencies. We also oversee the invoicing and revenue collection process for the funding.
The ideal candidates will be someone who works well with others, has shown leadership skills, and wants to become a part of the exciting role of supporting UNM in research and other sponsored projects.
The preferred candidates will be self-starters with strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, the ability to establish priorities and complete projects on time, an eye for detail and the ability to effectively organize, coordinate and complete a wide range of concurrent activities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, great verbal and written communication skills, excellent customer service skills, flexibility, and the ability to work independently are a must.
Responsibilities of the Accountant 1 position include but are not limited to:
Setting up new sponsored projects in the accounting system
Timely review and approval of departmental transactions on sponsored projects
Verification and submission of monthly invoices to sponsors
Verification and submission of subaward invoices from vendors
Assistance with pre-close checks on awards
Other duties to support the Fiscal Monitors in the department
Responsibilities of the Accountant 3 position include but are not limited to:
Revenue Management with timely and accurate preparation and submission of monthly invoices to sponsors
Interpret compliance requirements from multiple funding sources and handle ongoing monitoring of awards for verification of compliance
Provide customer service to UNM's research community with ongoing assistance to faculty and departmental administrators
Deliver accurate and timely submission of invoices and non-technical reports to agencies
Close awards in an appropriate fashion at the conclusion of a sponsored project period of performance
Salary range is estimated and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications.

Conditions of Employment
If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
Minimum Qualifications
Accountant 1: Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 9 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; no previous experience required. Accountant 3: Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 15 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Accountant 1 Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or BBA with Accounting emphasis
Experience with research administration
Experience working with UNM financial programs such as MyReports and Banner
Effective time management skills to prioritize multiple ongoing work tasks to meet deadline
Experience communicating effectively at different levels of an organization, both verbally and in writing
Experience with research and analytical skills to investigate discrepancies or questions
Proficient in MS Excel to analyze/interpret financial data and prepare reports
Ability to learn, understand, and apply University, Federal, State, and Agency policies, terms and conditions
Accountant 3 Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with research administration
Experience working with UNM financial programs such as MyReports and Banner
Effective time management skills to prioritize multiple ongoing work tasks to meet deadlines
Effective research and analytical skills to investigate discrepancies or questions
