Position Summary:
The UAA/APU Consortium Library is recruiting for a two-year, term-funded, full-time Library Resource Lending Technician - Library Technician 3. This position manages Interlibrary Loan lending and document delivery at the Consortium Library on the UAA main campus.
Duties:
10Administrative: Verify loans received, submit invoices for payment to appropriate personnel. Provide administrative support for the Collections and Access Services department including updating departmental forms and brochures. Compile statistics for annual reports. Prepare invoices for overdue materials.Essential
10Borrowing: Perform all Interlibrary Loan Borrowing procedures: searching, borrowing, renewing and returning books and articles. Support acquisition orders, database management, patron support and customer service.Essential
10Off-Site Storage: Retrieve/return items from an off-site storage facility as needed to complete resource sharing requests. Identify and resolve issues with collection of materials and these processes.Essential
20Lead Interlibrary Loan Worker: Develop and modify Interlibrary Loan procedures as necessary, working in concert with other Interlibrary Loan staff. Communicate new procedures to staff. Propose new policies for Interlibrary Loan area as needed. Provide work direction to student assistants. Manage library mail room functions. Provide supervision, evaluation, training and work direction for lending staff and students, and training on lending for staff doing backup. Respond to patron requests for exceptions to policies. Ensure accuracy of patron information in library's online system and ILL system database. Provide Customer Service support at various public desks on an as needed basis.Essential
50Lending: Coordinate and perform all functions of Interlibrary Loan lending. Search ILL online systems and library catalogs, receive and update requests, retrieve and process materials for lending, package for mailing. Answer inquiries related to ILL lending, communicate with borrowing libraries via email, fax, phone, or online systems, maintain request files, maintain patron and library databases. Train and supervise student assistants in performing lending work and in departmental procedures and policies. Makes exception to Interlibrary Loan policies as needed on case-by-case basis. Independently evaluates and meets complex organizational, program or system needs in assigned area. Interprets and applies complex rules and regulations including U.S. copyright law and publishing licensing agreements.Essential

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Ability to use multiple online bibliographic systems, specialized knowledge and ability to apply U.S. Copyright laws and current trends related to access and use of information resources including licensing agreements with publishers.
Interlibrary Loan software programs, online library catalogs, web searching, electronic delivery tools, and standard office software programs.
Knowledge of library operations and services.
Ability to use and do basic troubleshooting on reprographic and electronic delivery equipment.
Knowledge of supervisory techniques, including training, evaluating, and using progressive discipline techniques.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work with interruptions.
Customer service and communication skills.
Knowledge of circulation policies and procedures.
Ability to use library's online catalog for data entry, circulation, and blocking.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience working in an academic library.
Experience in leading and training student assistants or other employees.
Familiarity using ILLiad, SIRSI Workflows, and/or OCLC WorldShare, and/or RapidILL.
Familiarity operating multifunction printers and scanners and microfilm/microfiche readers.
Physical Demands:
Extensive work at a computer and copiers/scanners.
Works in an area of high activity, which may be stressful on occasion.
Work involves standing, reaching, stooping, bending, lifting and moving objects (up to 50 pounds), including loaded book trucks.

Preferred Experience & Education:
At least two years of interlibrary loan experience.
Required Experience & Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least two years of library experience.
Alaska State driver's license.
Salary Information:
This is a full-time, two-year, term-funded, 12-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 76, based on education and experience.
