Job Description
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Status: Exempt (salary to commensurate with experience)
Mission: Retrieving Freedom, Inc.'s mission is to change lives through the training and placement of service dogs for veterans with disabilities and children with autism.
Primary Function and Responsibilities: The Major Gifts Officer serves an integral function of the Resource Development and Marketing department by traveling and raising funds and awareness for RFI.
In concert with the Resource Development and Marketing team, and RFI’s overall organizational strategy, this position’s primary responsibilities include identifying and booking speaking engagements to fundraise; expanding RFI’s donor base by identifying new donors through networking events; cultivating major donor prospects that result from speaking and networking activities; and establishing and cultivating strategic partnerships.
The Major Gifts Officer also works in close collaboration with the RDM team to plan and execute annual revenue strategies, such as specific campaigns or appeals, and to maintain administrative duties aligned with the RDM departments’ needs and duties.
Additionally, this role assists in the overall creation, planning, and execution of the department's annual plan to grow the organization’s constituency base and to drive revenue growth year-over-year (YOY).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
SPEAKING, PARTNERSHIPS, AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
· Identify and execute speaking engagements that contribute to revenue generation
· In concert with RFI leadership, identify, establish, and cultivate strategic organizational partnerships related to revenue generation and raising public awareness of RFI
· Assist RDM team with developing volunteer ambassadors who will represent RFI in various community activities and speaking engagements
· Plan and develop fundraising activities aligned with the overall RFI revenue strategy, such as micro-events, donor stewardship activities, etc.
· Identify and cultivate donor prospects that result from community engagement activities
· Collaborate with Resource Development and Marketing Coordinator to activate third party fundraising opportunities
DONOR STEWARDSHIP
· Carry and manage donor portfolio, in concert with broader RDM and RFI teams’ donor portfolios
· Collaborate as an RDM team to effectively carry out RFI’s donor acknowledgement plan, which may include weekly stewardship calls, concentrated communication during certain times of the year (eg year-end)
· Connect donors to the RFI mission and overall team
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
· Maintain donor records and notes in RFI’s Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system
· Add donor contact information to CRM, and keep donor portfolio contact information updated
· Collaborate as an RDM team to effectively carry out RFI’s donor acknowledgement plan
· Maintain job-related expense records
· Submit deposit details with any revenues mailed to corporateheadquarters
· Other administrative duties as needed
OTHER
· Support the Client Ambassadors Program directed by the Resource Development and Marketing Coordinator
· Assist with development of corporate partnerships, sponsorships, and matches, when relevant to broader Resource Development Director duties
REQUIREMENTS
· Establish strong and appropriate relationships with Executive Staff, Front Line Staff, governing board, volunteers, donors, and the general community.
· Work collaboratively with the Resource Development and Marketing team to develop and execute the annual RDM plan.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
· This position requires a significant amount of travel within the Waverly, IA area.
· Must be willing to be flexible with scheduling.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
· Skilled at revenue generation, donor prospect identification, and donor stewardship.

· Outstanding track record of excellent customer service.
· Excellent verbal and written communication, including informative presentation skills.
· Analytical and systemic thinking with the ability to make responsible and timely decisions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds for short periods of time.

- Experience in social media management for nonprofit organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and cultivate relationships with major donors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Experience in volunteer management or working with volunteers is preferred.
- Knowledge of nonprofit management principles and best practices.
