The Alaska Department of Administration, Division of Finance is recruiting for an Accountant 5 position in Juneau!
What you will be doing:
This position develops statewide accounting policies ensuring compliance with GAAP, GASB, and IRS requirements; as well as ensuring the State’s accounting system is configured to meet these requirements. This position performs statewide training for systems managed by the Department of Administration, in the Division of Finance (these systems consist of IRIS ADVANCED and ALDER). This position also will be involved in the creation of the ACFR as well as supervising the Warrant Team.

You will need to possess the following competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to be successful in this position:

Pays attention to details; recognizes the component parts of a procedure or object and can verify correctness or error in an individual part or procedure.
Organizer and Decision Maker: Demonstrates the ability to prioritize, operate independently, manage time, and use sound judgment and solid decision-making abilities.
The ability to instruct, supervise, and evaluate employees. Experience developing training plans and providing training in a group setting.
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word.
Special Note:
It is preferred that the selected candidate has a strong background in accounting and/or education in accounting/business.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities in accounting, budgeting, or financial management, equivalent to those typically gained by:
a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related area of study, and three (3) years of responsible professional experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial management, preferably in the public sector.
NOTE TO APPLICANTS:
These minimum qualifications use a different standard than our normal practice and focus on knowledge and skills however gained, not on specific education and experience.
When calculating education to experience equivalents:
Undergraduate credits: 2.67 sem/4 qtr hrs = 1 month
Associate Degree = 2 years
Bachelor's Degree = 4 years
Graduate credits: 2 sem/3 qtr hrs = 1 month
Master's Degree = 5 years
