Colorado Developmental Disability Council
The Board, composed of members throughout the State, serves as the Developmental Disabilities Council for addressing the needs of people with developmental disabilities as authorized under the federal Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act. Per Statute (27-10.5-206) the Council, with delegated authority by the Colorado Department of Human Services, hires and provides supervision of the Director; is responsible for providing executive leadership to achieve the Board's vision and mission of advancing public policy that ensures persons with developmental and other disabilities are fully included in all facets of community life; and implements similar strategic programs that relate to priorities of the Governor.

About the Position:

The Executive Director for the Developmental Disabilities Council possesses creativity, strong leadership and initiative, and a deep visionary passion for the mission and goals of the DD Act and the Council, with preference for individuals with lived experience. This position possesses a broad knowledge of services and support for individuals with disabilities in Colorado, strong leadership skills to guide the strategic development and oversight of goals setting for the Council and evaluation of the effectiveness of grant programs supporting the lives of people with disabilities funded through the Council. In addition, the position provides tasks that require timely completion and submission of complex Federal reports on an annual basis, oversight and the management of funds and coordination of resources. The Executive Director (ED) must demonstrate the capacity to administer a multi-faceted agenda as well as perform the full range of supervisory duties in accordance with State law. The Executive Director, in partnership with the council, has the primary responsibility for policy development, leadership. advocacy, management, contracts and grants, communication and liaison with federal and state agencies, and constituencies, and for all fiscal activities of the Council.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Five years of professional experience in Human Services, Social Work, IDD, or Behavior Analysis, performing closely related duties to the position.
AND
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment.
Substitutions:
Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a
year-for-year basis.
Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working or advocating for people with developmental disabilities.
Conditions of Employment
Travel - This position requires travel in state and national to attend meetings and conferences.
Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
