Position Summary
The Division of Institutional Advancement at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Director of Development position. The Director of Development serves as a representative of the mission and vision of Jackson State University to its constituents.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree Preferred
Minimum Required Experience
Eight years of major gift fundraising experience or a combination of major gift fundraising and annual giving, planned giving, volunteer management, stewardship, communications, or other advancement related areas of work.
Experience in a sales environment including a combination of activities related to prospect management, proposals, and sales results would be considered.
Two or more years of experience in a direct supervision role.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Build relationships with key prospects and donors designed to garner philanthropic support at the major gift ($25,000) or higher level.
Annually complete 160 or more face-to-face visits with philanthropic prospects that move the prospect forward on the donor continuum.
Submit 30 or more proposals for major gifts to said prospects
Personally garner $3 million in total philanthropic gifts and $100,000 in gifts to the Annual Fund
Assist in meeting and surpassing unit goals for advancement
Supervise up to four employees and other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Advancement
Provide strategic leadership towards the development efforts within the Jackson State University community which represents an alumni base in excess of 55,000
Maintain a significant prospect portfolio working with some of the university’ s most generous alumni and friends
Foster a successful fundraising environment for the department, while being collaborative across the university, with alumni and friends beyond 1.20 hours/week
Communicating with prospects, securing face-to-face visits and other engagement activities 2.10 hours/week
Visiting with prospects and traveling to and from said visits 3.5 hours/week
Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to: prospect portfolio maintenance and research
Prospect interaction data entry; 4.5 hours/week
Supervision of three direct reports and analyzing progress goals
