Job Description
The Director of Stewardship and Scholarships develops and produces high impact materials to support fundraising and alumni/donor engagement efforts, including writing and designing proposals and letters, campaign pieces, and other important stewardship pieces.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Creates special communications that support major gift and annual fund gift solicitations on the importance of supporting scholarships, raise the sights of prospective donors, and heighten awareness about Florida Southern College.
2. Implements major elements of a comprehensive development communications strategy, including designing and writing gift proposals, case statements, power points, stewardship letters, periodic communications to major prospects and donors, major gift announcements and publicity, campaign website development and maintenance.
3. Steward and cultivate scholarship donors through regular communications.
4. Create annual scholarship reports to be mailed to scholarship donors.
5. Plan and organize at least one scholarship stewardship events (lunches/dinners) each academic year.
6. Provides guidance, support, coordination, and editorial oversight for all development communications projects that will be informed by campaign communications strategy, including gift planning collateral materials.
7. Researches, writes, and designs principal and major gift funding proposals to support the College’s highest and most urgent priorities.
8. Works closely with the Office of the President on special donor communications and acknowledgement letters.
9. Responsible for versatile communications—working with text, imagery, across the web, in print, and in social media platforms—to enhance the College’s Advancement program.
10. Helps in the planning of other on-campus and off-campus events, as needed, to assist in cultivation of donors.
11. Contributes to the success of the department by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with three years or more of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Broad experience in communications, journalism, marketing, and/or public relations.
3. Experience in higher education, particularly undergraduate liberal arts colleges, is a plus.
4. Exceptional writing and editing skills.
5. Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite programs including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
6. Must possess impeccable communication skills, both oral and written; a professional demeanor; a positive attitude; and the knowledge and ability to keep confidences.
7. Exceptional interpersonal skills, in order to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, administrators, trustees, alumni, parents, and freelancers.
8. Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and perform well on deadline as well as on long-term projects.
9. Demonstrated team player with ability to gain trust and confidence with colleagues and constituents
10. Strong organizational and motivational skills necessary.
