Summary
In partnership with the Executive Associate Athletic Director for Development, the Assistant Athletic Director for Major Gifts and Campaign Strategy will be responsible for the creation and implementation of a nationwide capital fundraising campaign to be developed in concert with the Athletic Director, the Office of University Development, Athletic Department senior leaders, Athletic Department development team members and coaches. Primary responsibilities will be implemented through regular and frequent meetings with the Executive Associate Athletic Director, major gift officers and development team members. In addition, this position will provide management and oversight of the Major Gifts Team and have a small principal and major gift donor portfolio that will require travel and participation in evening and weekend activities.
Responsibilities*
Working in partnership with the Executive Associate Athletic Director, create, develop, and implement a plan for a nationwide capital fundraising campaign in support of priorities established by the Athletic Director, working closely with the Office of University Development, athletic department development team, coaches, and athletic department team members.
Develop a campaign operations plan and timeline, and as well as tools to monitor campaign progress through pre-established metrics and dashboards.
Develop a matrix of campaign goals and objectives that reflects athletic department initiatives; and ensures coordination between various initiatives.
Working in partnership with the Executive Associate Athletic Director, ensure the proper engagement and involvement in the campaign of athletic department senior leadership, coaches, athletic department development team members and current student-athletes.
Establish and implement standards of accountability to measure progress of the campaign against dollar and activity goals.
Working in partnership with the Executive Associate Athletic Director, summarize and report out on all campaign activity to athletic department senior leadership through Tableau dashboards.
Provide leadership and direction to the Major Gifts Team to develop, implement, and execute long-range and short-range regional strategies and plans to identify, cultivate, and solicit gift prospects in select regions, including those capable of making major gifts or planned gifts of $100,000 or more.
Manage and mentor a team of 6 or more Major Gift Officers by empowering them to lead with a donor-centric approach to fundraising that fosters a positive and innovative culture for continuous improvement that motivates individuals to capitalize on their individual strengths.
Coordinate with the Major Gifts Team to facilitate regional activities that will directly result in prospect identification, engagement, and successful solicitation.
Serve as the representative of the Athletic Development team when needed and as directed in the absence of the Executive Associate Athletic Director.
Proactively identify, and formally qualify, new major and planned giving prospects.
Oversee the day-to-day management and administration of the Major Gifts Team budget in partnership with each Major Gift Officer's region.
Support coaches and their staff with sport specific fundraising plans, initiatives and efforts as approved by their sport administrator.
Participate in Athletic Department and Development events as appropriate. This includes but is not limited to home and away football game activities, post-season team travel, on and off-campus donor activities, other athletic events, etc.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Business, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, and/or related field.
Work experience in professional education, fundraising, public relations, marketing, or related sales field.
7-9 years of development experience, with at least 4 years of significant major gift experience working with gifts of $100,000 and above. Experience in higher education development preferred.
Proven success managing a team of development professionals in a complex university setting or related field.
Strong organizational and analytical skills with ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and advance strategic plans and programs that support the Athletic Department mission and contribute to the overall goals and objectives of the fundraising program.
Ability to foster partnerships with campus constituents including but not limited to University Development and the Business Office.
Excellent oral and written communication skills along with exceptional problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse array of personalities under pressure and deadlines.
Strong commitment to the student-athlete experience.
Desired Qualifications*
Master's degree.
Experience in athletic fundraising.
Sound knowledge of laws, practices, and philosophy of charitable giving.
Demonstrated track record of financial development and/or sales productivity in a complex work environment.
