Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Boys & Girls Club of Chicago (BGCC) seeks a mission-driven communication professional to join a cross-functional team charged with increasing awareness of and diversifying revenue in the Advancement department. This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications.
The Communications Manager is a key member of the Marketing and Communications team contributing to BGCC’s success in achieving the department’s goals. This position plays a strategic and critical role in generating impact stories while leading and executing external and internal communications, PR/media relations, and thought leadership across the organization.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Plays a lead role in external (PR/media relations, story curation, reputation management) communications development and execution to increase awareness and affinity of Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago among key audiences.
Leads the communications editorial strategy and planning.
Oversees all reactive and proactive media relations efforts and manages agency support.
Compiles, analyzes, and interprets analytics to measure media/PR impact, trends, strategies, and opportunities to reach new audiences.
Drives storytelling efforts and supports content curation that uplifts Club member voices and reinforces the mission and key organization focus areas.
Promotes Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago’s reputation through crisis communications support and proactive thought leadership.
Participates in overall communications and marketing strategy planning.
Serves as a key member of the Advancement department at fundraising events. Events may require work outside of standard business hours.
Manages a portfolio of projects both independently and as a member of project teams.
Manages risks and changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs.
Increase operational efficiency and help set up and improve workflow processes when and where needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Marketing and Communications
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or marketing
5-7 years of relevant experience in PR/ media relations
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Exceptional verbal, written, and grammar skills
Experience in multimedia communications and marketing
Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud
Knowledge in marketing, content development, and website management
Website experience a plus
Excellent project management and organizational skills, ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of the Chicago media landscape
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a valid IL driver’s license.
Must have reliable, insured private transportation
Must pass a criminal background check which includes Livescan fingerprints
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Normal internal office environment. Occasional need to travel to club locations in Chicago. Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift frequently. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
