Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Assistant Director of Development, Corporate & Foundation Relations for the A. James Clark School of Engineering is responsible for assisting in achieving the unit goals for corporate and foundation giving, and representing the school strategically to the corporate and foundation communities.
The Assistant Director of Development cultivates and solicits new, multifaceted institutional partnerships at all levels and maximizes the return on investment by our partners. In addition to focusing on college and campus-wide priorities, they work with several departments, units, programs or projects. The Assistant Director interfaces regularly with engineering department chairs and unit leadership, including advising on best practices for engaging volunteer boards.
The Assistant Director is responsible for soliciting gifts from corporate, foundation, and institutional donors of $25,000 and above. In conjunction with the Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations, they will create strategies to maximize engagement by corporate, foundation and association funders with the Clark School. Along with the Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations, the Assistant Director plays an important role in developing the corporate funding pipeline for the Clark School.
The Assistant Director manages and seeks ways to continually enhance the Clark School Corporate Partners Program, including strengthening relationships with current and prospective members, soliciting membership gifts, providing benefits and member support, ensuring proper recognition and overseeing Corporate Partner events. The Assistant Director also provides strategic and administrative fundraising support for student groups, including interfacing with student teams regarding their funding needs and sponsor communications. This position will be required to work evening and weekend hours. Also, frequent local travel, and occasional national travel is required.
Minimum Qualifications:Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience:
A minimum of three years of successful fundraising, membership development or sales experience.
Experience securing corporate and foundation gifts.
Demonstrated ability to work with high-level corporate/foundation representatives.
Build donor/customer and prospect relationships and develop stewardship activities; and to solicit and close gifts or deals of five figures or more.
Demonstrated success in fundraising and/or sales, as well as proposal writing.
Demonstrated record of completing assignments on deadline.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong proposal writing skills.
Ability to manage project and program fundraising, from defining the opportunity to identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major prospects and donors.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks appropriately.
Strong customer service ethic and experience overseeing successful stewardship events and activities.
Strong interpersonal skills that will enable them to work well with diverse groups of constituents and colleagues.
Able to synthesize complex material and have great attention to detail.
Ability to liaise across campus regarding topics including recruiting, sponsored research, executive or employee training, intellectual property and “tech transfer”, and all manner of philanthropic donations.
Ability to represent the University in a highly professional and effective manner.
Understanding of, and commitment to, the values and role of a public, research university.

Master’s degree.
Experience working with senior executives, volunteers, senior administration and faculty.
Experience working in engineering or similar technical field.
Experience in higher education and/or industry.

Salary Range is low $80,000s – upper $90,000s
This position allows for a combination of in-person and telework days as approved by the supervisor. Guidance regarding hybrid work is subject to change at any time to align with operational or business needs

Work is performed in a traditional office environment and requires the ability to operate standard equipment and keyboards. This position requires some in-state and out-of-state travel (10%) resulting in working some nights and weekends.
