Job Description
This position reports to – Director of Nursing
The Medical Assistant will work directly with the Director of Nursing to ensure evidence-based protocols are followed, and report on prominent deviations in patients' symptomology. The Medical Assistant must exercise empathy and resilience. The Medical Assistant will be accountable for reinforcing program structure by demonstrating professional behavior and having regular positive interactions that align with Red Top Wellness Center’s ethical standards.
Essential Job Functions
- Caring for patients with acute conditions - building relationships and responding to their physical and emotional needs, while delivering effective care.
- Adheres to HIPAA regulations when communicating with other people and organizations.
- Be a part of a professional team to promote and improve mental health and well-being of each patient with open communication and respect for all.
- Dealing with the specific symptoms of mental illness, de-escalating stressful situations, and helping patients overcome challenges.
- Interacting with patients' families and other care staff - offering advice and information on patients' conditions.
- Preparing and maintaining patients records.
- Assisting Registered Nurses with making rounds.
- Assisting with vitals daily.
- Initiate emergency resuscitative measures according to adult resuscitation protocols.
Job Responsibilities
1. Check patients’ vitals daily as needed or directed.
2. Responsible for emergency medical interventions and CPR or First Aid when needed.
3. Responsible for observation of entry area and guest environment.
4. Responsible for ensuring that all guests are cleared before entering the building and kept in the waiting area until they have received a guest badge and guided to their destination.
5. Responsible for preparing and maintaining patients’ records.
6. Attend monthly meetings with clinical staff and stay up to date with changes within the program.
7. Adapt to the needs of the program by demonstrating flexibility/adaptability.
8. Assisting Registered Nurses with making rounds.
9. Assisting with vitals daily.
10. Maintain a safe environment for customers and co-workers.
11. Other duties assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Additional Requirements
Medical Assistant Certification Required
Minimum of 1 (one) year current psychiatric/mental health experience is preferred.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must be competent with computers in order to effectively manage the electronic health records system and administrative duties.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Ability to practice nursing with respect for individual, cultural, and spiritual differences and to maintain compassion for people who are struggling with their mental health.
Must submit to a background test
Must submit and pass a drug screen
Knowledge, Abilities and Attitudes Required
1. Knowledge of software programs for personal computer use
2. Knowledge and experience in working with chemically dependent clients
3. Knowledge of different treatment modalities and interventions
4. Ability to effectively resolve conflict and cope with crisis situations
5. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to carry out assigned tasks to completion
6. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients and staff by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and resolving conflicts
7. Ability to plan and organize workload and manage tasks meeting documentation deadlines him/herself
8. Ability to maintain professional standards and demeanor, including confidentiality of employee and client data and other sensitive information
9. Recognition of the limits of one’s own professional expertise and the willingness to seek supervision and/or support as needed.
10. Must be culturally/linguistically sensitive to populations served

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
