This position reports to the Corporate Director of Manufacturing. This position directs manufacturing operations through a team of functional front-line supervisors. Good communication, problem solving, leadership, teamwork, project management, performance management, self-motivation and technical capacity are all essential to the success of this position. Regular day-to-day activities require regular interaction with all company departments, vendors, and customers. This position will foster an environment where accountability is expected, while facilitating development and innovation necessary to ensure the Company's competitive advantage is maintained. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, is a critical thinker, and is someone who has a proven track record of creating operational excellence.
Essential Functions
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES: Set the strategic direction and momentum for the plant
Ensure all health, safety, environmental, quality, and continual improvement standards as set by the corporation and by local, state, and federal regulations are strictly complied with
Responsible for all production operations at a plant including manufacturing, shipping, scheduling, assembly, bagging and maintenance
Responsible for effectively leading a production team in a safe and efficient manner
Responsible for evaluating opportunities to improve overall plant performance and profitability
Oversee, plan, and implement strategy to optimize the effective utilization of workforce, materials & machinery through active participation in daily production meetings
Coordinate site activities, provide direct oversight of management team, communicate and implement company policy
Engage in employee development activities, promotion, performance evaluation and disciplinary action
Coach and develop direct reports and identify high potential employees for levels of greater responsibility and scope
Ensure performance feedback and appraisals are completed effectively and on a timely basis; rewarding and recognizing excellent performance while maintaining levels of accountability
Close and regular communication with centralized planning team to maintain appropriate workload
Maintain a clean, safe and injury-free work environment by ensuring health and safety procedures are understood and executed by all employees
Analyze production performance, identify opportunities and make recommendations for process and equipment improvements
Attends weekly and monthly leadership meetings
Ensure predictive and preventive maintenance programs are established and adhered to. All necessary repairs are completed to OEM standards and in a timely manner
Assist the upper management in developing business plans and evaluating and recommending capital projects to ensure the plant remains profitable and competitive
The Site Manager will report directly to the Director of Manufacturing and will have solid line responsibility for Maintenance Manager, Production Manager, Shipping Department Supervisors, Assembly Supervisor, Purchaser and the Plant Scheduler
Manage and organize multiple priorities while retaining sufficient flexibility to meet customer demands
Collaborates with leadership to determine manufacturing site head count needs
Visit customers and vendors as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED Required; college degree a plus, but not required.
The ability to oversee all facets of day-to-day production operation.
Ten (10) years' of previous experience in corrugated manufacturing industry
Seven (7) years' previous experience in a management or supervisory capacity at a corrugated manufacturing facility
Superb level of knowledge of corrugated and packaging manufacturing machinery, concepts, practices, and procedures including continual improvement processes and safety practices
Previous experience in coaching, training, teambuilding, performance development, and conflict resolution
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively lead and communicate with production team and management
Demonstrated Strong verbal and written communication skills. Possess the ability to effectively communicate with individuals throughout the company on departmental procedures, policies, practices, and requests for information
Demonstrated strong listening, evaluating, and problem solving skills
Ability to create alternative solutions when primary solution is unavailable
Demonstrated history of consistently meeting deadlines
Working knowledge of computer systems including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Solid analytical and mathematical skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects and/or requests concurrently
