Impactful interaction with our clients and their families is at the core of everything we do. Our team of clinical professionals evaluates clients' individual needs and recommends appropriate treatment plans while facilitating program selection and effective aftercare decisions.
Summary of Position Responsibilities:
Medical Assistants or MA's work closely with medical and clinical staff in providing care to patients in detox hospital setting. Ability to work as part of a treatment team in a setting with changing demands. Preferred, Medical Assistants should have experience working with substance use disorders and psychiatric/mental health patients in complex medical settings.
Essential Duties:
- Interact with clients actively intoxicated, experiencing symptoms of withdrawal
- Provide safety, stability and direction to clients
- Identify emerging situation and respond appropriately
- Preform accurate, timely and ethical documentation at all times, including admissions, discharges, inventories of patients personal belongings, documentation of all significant interaction with individual patients
- Monitor/observe Urinalysis or Breathalyzer tests as needed and document appropriately
- Monitor and document client vital signs, physical condition, and behaviors as part of the program structure
- Supports medical staff as needed
- Administration of medications as per QMAP protocols, working closely with medical team including physicians, NP’s, PA’s and nurses regarding medications in general, proactively seek clarification when needed.
- Use Electronic Health Record software for documentation
- Monitors the facility to insure it is maintained and in order, report concerns to direct supervisor, review and apply security protocols of the facility
- Dispose of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards
- Practice OSHA safety standards and universal precautions
- Communicate to the medical team observed medical complications or signs of distress in patients
- Transport client to hospital or other approved serves as directed by medical and program personnel
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings and supervision
Expectation of all SMR staff:
- Performs all job duties within the health and safety guidelines of the organization.
- Performs all job duties within the written guidelines of the behavioral, ethical, and conduct codes of the organization.
- Interacts with clients, fellow employees and visitors to the program in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of open, direct, and assertive communication.
- Ability to apply the concepts of customer service in the workplace. Ability to use good professional judgment. Detail oriented. Ability to work independently, with minimal direct supervision.
- Stay current with general knowledge pertaining the addiction treatment.
- Serves as an advocate for all patients in receiving services within the organization and outside the organization, by supporting the rights of patients and communicating information, to all involved parties, in a manner that reduces the stigma of addictions treatment and mental illness and increases awareness.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Leadership Team.
- Willingness to participate in requirements as outlined by Joint Commission.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent, Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Certification/Licensure: Valid driver’s license, EMT, MA, QMAP and CPR certified or willingness to become certified
- Experience: 1+ years in clinical/medical setting working with substance use disorder and co-occurring diagnoses patients preferred
- Supervisory experience: NA
- Technology experience: Experience using ERM software, strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
