Provides nursing assistance and patient care to provide for the comfort, safety and personal needs of patients. Assists physicians/physician assistants/nurse practitioners in medical office setting. Performs a variety of patient care duties within the construct of a multidisciplinary patient care team as delegated by physician. Specific duties and responsibilities assigned to the individual will be determined by the supervising physician(s), clinical staff and Practice Coordinator after competency is established.
Triage team answers patient questions, provides clinical education over the phone when calling patients with results or information.
Assess patient symptoms and schedules same day appt if needed. Identify if patient needs to go to ER and make recommendation.
Interviews patient and records patient medical history and specific information related reason for visit in task.
Manages Incoming/Outgoing calls- abnormal lab results and give provider instructions for medication changes and send in new Rx to pharmacy. Schedule follow up appt/lab/assist with referral if needed.
Work triage task box: call results, Rx refills, delegated refill task que, FMH tasks, sick calls, wait lists (per provider) working patients in for same day visits.
Enters lab orders when needed.
Answer questions from Scheduling Team/Reception Team/Lab Team/Radiology Team/PA Team/Pre-cert Team/ Central Scheduling/ Billing office/ Operators/Providers and MD calls.
Manages MD to MD line.
Manages FMH messages.
Form completion may include: FMLA, Home Health, Disability, Handicap Parking Placard, work excuses, Biometric screening, Diabetes supplies/shoes, DME requests.
Faxing completed forms, medical records and information requested by other sources to the appropriate area.
Load Rx for MD authorization on all medications called in through the refill line. Refills are sent to provider team via task. Calling in prescriptions when needed.
Enters physician orders for tests, procedures, etc. into computer system. Schedule tests and treatments, as ordered by the physician.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Graduate of Medical Assistant program or Graduate of a U.S. Military Medic course. In lieu of medical assistant program education or Military Medic course, equivalent clinical experience to completion of Medical Assistant program required.
Expertise in ambulatory/physician office practice flow and activities; specialty specific disease processes and conditions; in-office procedures, and patient education.
Current BLS card (CPR).
Color vision acuity is required to safely perform the duties of this position if such duties are related to lab duties.
All applicants must submit to and pass a Color-Acuity screening Test if such duties of this position are related to lab duties.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED
Certified as Medical Assistant.
Two years patient care experience in an ambulatory or acute care setting
