Job Description
SUMMARY:
This position is primarily responsible for rooming patients, preparing medical charts, prescription refills, and FMLA/disability paperwork for designated provider(s).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Room patients, including taking vitals, verifying medical history, and ensuring physician stays on time.
Responsible for professional telephone interactions. Includes accurate communication with patients, pharmacies, referring physician offices, and disability companies.
Prepare patient charts for clinic at least 48 hours prior to scheduled appointment.
Maintain accurate information for patient records and ensure all documentation is entered in EHR consistently and in a timely manner.
Ensure exam rooms are neat, clean, stocked and the log is kept up to date.
Call in prescriptions and prescription refills as needed, including documenting in the patient’s chart.
Obtain and review pre-operative labs in a timely manner.
Complete FMLA and other disability paperwork in a timely manner.
Send office notes to patient’s PCP and/or referring provider within 30 days of office visit.
Page provider when needed for hospital calls.
Responsible for supporting Surgery Coordinator with scheduling appointments and/or testing, as well as triaging calls.
Required to follow HIPAA and OSHA compliance guidelines at all times.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Two or more years’ experience as a medical assistant required.
CERTIFICATE, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
None required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of organization.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Internet browsers, and e-mail.
