Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Staff Accountant based out of Duluth, MN, or Minneapolis, MN!
Responsibilities:
Maintain the general ledger for assigned accounts and prepare monthly journal entries within the timelines established in the monthly close calendar
Assist in the month-end closing process, including assigned general ledger reconciliations, accruals, and analysis
Participate in quarterly testing of internal controls, ensuring compliance with GAAP
Process weekly time and expense sheets including calculation of overtime and other additional pay items
Process weekly payroll hours and earnings for submission into a third-party payroll system (currently ADP)
Process employee data in the ERP system and ADP (new hires, changes, additional earnings)
Support periodic financial, payroll/401k, and sales & use tax audits as needed
Maintain systems and controls which verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and enhance the Company's value.
Identify and promote changes in procedures and reporting that increase efficiency and reduce data keying and manual intervention.
Review accounting methodology for assigned areas and propose changes when operationally necessary.
Keep supervisor informed of important developments, potential problems and related information necessary for effective management. Coordinate and communicate plans and activities with others, as appropriate to ensure a coordinated work effort and team approach.
Position Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
2+ years of corporate accounting experience preferred
Experience with payroll preferred
Strong PC skills, including high proficiency in MS Excel
Experience with sales/use tax a plus
Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills
Ability to communicate with various levels of staff and management
Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material
Decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills
Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
