$12,000 SIGN ON BONUS
Position Summary
Supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the unit in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. To ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. The Unit Manager is accountable for the 24 hour per day, 7 day per week nursing care provided on their assigned unit.

Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative Functions
Assist the Administrative Nursing Services in directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing activities in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
Ensure that reference material (i.e., PDR’s, Federal and State Regulations, etc.) is maintained at the nurses’ stations are current. Recommend written material that will assist the nursing service department in meeting the day-to-day needs of the resident.
Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing Services.
Interpret the department’s policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies as required.
Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
Attend various committee meetings of the facility as required
Assist in preparing written and/or oral reports of the nursing service programs and activities to submit to such committee(s) as directed.
Review flow sheets for accuracy and completeness.
Nursing Service Functions
1. Inform nursing service personnel of new admissions, their expected time of arrival, room assignment, etc.
2. Ensure that rooms are ready for new admissions.
3. Make rounds with physicians providing the physician with pertinent resident information.
4. Consult with the resident, his/her family, and the resident’s physician in planning the resident’s care, treatment, rehabilitation, etc., as necessary.
5. Assure that notification of the resident’s attending physician and next of kin has been completed when there is a change in the resident’s condition.
6. Visit residents on a daily basis in order to observe and evaluate each resident’s physical and emotional status. Round with at purpose and report to DON any abnormal findings.
7. Review nurses’ notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided, that they reflect the resident’s response to the care, and that such care is provided in accordance with the resident’s wishes. Chart audits
8. Provide direct nursing care as necessary.
9. Report problem areas to the Director, or ADON. Assist in developing and implementing corrective action.
10. Keep the Director informed of the status of residents and other related matters through written/oral reports.
11. Complete MDS assessments, weekly wound rounds and documentation.
12. Report to the unit no later than 7am to begin rounds, review 24 hour report, and participate in the report process. Check on-line for all labs & x-ray results everyday before the completion of the shift. Call all abnormal results to the MD and obtain necessary orders.
13. Attend morning stand-up report prepared to answer questions pertaining to the 24 hour report.
14. Review medication records, C.N.A. flow books, I&O sheets, monthly vital signs, etc., for completeness of information and accuracy.
15. Review incident report complaints and grievances made or filed by department personnel and follow up.
16. Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to ensure that nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
17. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit.
18. Meet with your staff on a regular scheduled basis to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or to assist in the improvement of services.
19. Participate in employee performance evaluations, and making recommendations to the Director concerning employee dismissals, transfers, etc.
20. Participate in on-call schedule.
21. Make sure all POS’ are completed in a timely manner.
Staff Development
Identify educational needs of unit and in-service as needed.
Enforce attendance at mandatory in-services.
Attend and participate in continuing education programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession, as well as to maintain your license on a current status.
Safety and Sanitation
Uphold infection control and safety standards on unit per facility policy.
Assessment Functions and Care Plan
Monitor and participate in all aspects of the MDS assessment and care plan process as per policy.
Participate in the development of written preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing care.
Resident Rights
Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
Monitor nursing care to ensure that all residents are treated fairly and with kindness, dignity and respect.
Personnel Functions
1. Complete probationary and annual performance appraisals.
2. Co-ordinate orientation of new employees, assure competency checklist completed and competency verified prior to independent assignment on unit.
3. Provide constructive feedback/discipline to assigned staff, as needed and appropriate.
Unit Manager
Working Conditions
Works throughout the nursing service area (i.e., drug rooms, nurses’ stations, resident rooms, etc.). Sits, stands, bends, lift, and moves intermittently during working hours. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel and visitors. Communicates with nursing personnel and other department personnel. Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary. Is subject to callback during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.). Attends and participates in continuing educational programs. Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke and other air contaminants. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB, COVID-19, and Hepatitis B viruses.
Education and/or Experience
Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing degree from an accredited college or university or be a graduated RN. Must have a minimum of two years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, long term care facility or other related health care facility. Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
Specific Requirements
Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN in this state.
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Physical and Sensory Requirements

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 lbs. to a minimum height of 3 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 5 feet.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
