Boeing Phantom Works Space creates the next generation products and services for the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business and is currently looking for a Communication Systems Engineer (Entry / Associate / Mid-level) to join their team in El Segundo, CA.
We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Phantom Works focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.
We are seeking a Communication Systems Engineer with experience in satellite communication systems to work in a rapid development environment. This engineer will participate in all phases of the system development life cycle, including architecture development, requirements definition, analysis and decomposition, software and hardware system design, algorithm design, risk management, integration, test, and operations. The successful candidate will assist in leading system level communication design, development, verification, and operations activities.
Position Responsibilities:
Assist with communication architecture design, development, requirements definition, interface definition, analysis, functional decomposition, and CONOPS activities for space communication architectures.
Assist with communication trade studies and briefings.
Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal multi-disciplinary teams.
Assist with communication verification, validation, integration and test planning and execution (including functional validation as well as formal requirements sell-off).
Assist with risk reduction activities and issue resolution.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (US Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):
Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills & Experience):
1 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
1 or more years of experience with communications design, analysis, development, and verification.
1 or more years of experience in RF, digital signal processing (DSP), and/or optical communications.
Experience with digital/RF communications hardware and lab equipment.
Experience with Model Based Engineering tools and languages.
Experience in rapid prototyping activities with small spacecraft.
Typical Education/Experience:
(Entry) Level 1
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
(Associate) Level 2
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not
required, accreditation standard.
(Mid-level) Level 3
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range for Entry: $73,100 – $98,900
Summary pay range for Associate: $87,550 – $118,450
Summary pay range for Mid-level: $104,550 – $141,450
