The Position
Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.
Incumbents independently resolve many users' PC issues including email and applications problems and record calls using the help desk application. Incumbents identify and decide how to resolve problems themselves or through appropriate referral; use utilities to check for network connectivity; and establish user rights. The Department of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) Office of Information Security provisioning team is seeking a motivated and skilled individual to join our team as an Entry-Level Cyber Security Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting and implementing security measures to protect our computer systems, networks, and data from unauthorized access or attack. You will work closely with other members of IT to help ensure that our agency's data remains safe and secure.
Responsibilities include assisting in the maintenance of the DWSS security policies and procedures, working within the Agency ticketing system to complete security related tasks, use monitoring tools to assist in identifying suspicious activity, troubleshooting and logically address security events within the scope and authority of the position, and educating other employees on DWSS security policies and practices. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent and four years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, two years of which must have included IT work experience in a user support role; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
This position has a 25% travel requirement.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
This position is subject to working nights, weekends, and holiday.
