Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Social Media Coordinator will assist in managing the University of Maryland’s social media program.
Working with the university’s Social Media Director, the coordinator will help execute a social media strategy that helps promote UMD as a premier institution, strengthen the university’s social media presence, and increase engagement with the university community. This includes content creation and posting, managing the university’s content calendar, and measuring the performance of social media content and campaigns. The social media coordinator is a highly motivated individual with experience and a passion for brand management. The coordinator will manage posts and social media advertising campaigns, listen to and engage with existing social media conversations, and produce robust metrics reports that demonstrate reach and relevance. This position also staffs university events for the purposes of social media coverage and content gathering, requiring some night and weekend work.
Responsibilities Include:
Manage social media campaigns and day-to-day activities including: Curate relevant content; create, curate and manage published content (images, video, and written). Monitor, listen, and respond to conversations. Help design, create and manage social media advertising campaigns.
Compile reports for management showing results. Directly manages Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn for the University.
Monitor conversations around the university’s brand taking place online. Identify and report reputational threats and inappropriate conversations. The social media coordinator will be in constant contact with the university’s Social Media Assistant Director to communicate on public feedback, complaints, and conversations surrounding the university brand that are taking place in the public sphere.
Analyze campaigns and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into recommendations and plans for revising the university’s social media campaigns. Monitor effective best practices for measuring the impact of social media campaigns. Analyze, review, and report on the effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximize results.
Serve as an integral part of the Communications unit and the Office of Marketing and Communications planning process. Meet with campus partners and communicators as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:Education (include licenses, certification, etc.):
BA or BS degree in related field
Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Specialized skills:
Demonstrates creativity and documented immersion in social media
Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios. Also has a working knowledge of social media tools (i.e., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.) and monitoring and reporting services
Maintains excellent writing and language skills
Displays the ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and video format
Makes evident good technical understanding and can pick up new technology quickly
Works well in a team environment

Physical Demands
