General Description
This position requires you to work collaboratively with our providers including resident physicians and physician assistants. Salina Family Healthcare Center utilizes a team-based concept for patient medical appointments. Each team is comprised of one or more Faculty Physicians, a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year Resident, a non-Faculty medical provider, a Nurse and a Medical Assistant. The team-based approach improves access and continuity of care by the providers and teams to their patients. This position will require OSHA training and will be subject to blood and other bodily fluids. In accordance with HIPAA regulations, this position requires full access to Protected Health Information (PHI). Such disclosure is necessary to perform the requirements of the job. Confidentiality of PHI must be maintained.

Working Conditions
The position requires normal range of body motion, hearing and eyesight in order to perform duties of the position. Requires hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, scanner, calculator and other office equipment. Employee must be able to write, speak, and hear. Employee must be able to read small print both on paper and on a computer screen for long periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Frequent standing and walking required for extended periods of time (7-9 hours). Occasionally you may lift and/or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, and stretching. Interaction with others is frequent and can often be disruptive so the ability to multi task is important. This is a medical office environment involving frequent contact with staff and patients. There will be exposure to airborne and blood borne pathogens, and hazardous materials common in a clinic. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Essential Duties
Check patients in for appointments; specifically, obtain from each patient, blood pressure, height, weight, temperature, pulse, O2 saturation, etc.
Attentive to patient and provider needs, actively participate in keeping providers on schedule.
Help schedule appointments/referrals/admissions for patients outside the clinic.
Work collaboratively with the clinical team to promote continuity of patient care.
Float from team to team or task to task as needed.
Complete forms and perform related tasks for several various appointment types including:
Kan Be Health (KBH)/Well Child Checks (WCC);
SRS;
Well Woman Exams;
School Physicals;
New Born Child (NBC) physicals;
Pre-op H&P (History and Physicals); and
Sports/cheerleading physicals.
Acute Care duties include:
Calling Ambulances;
SRHC (Salina Regional Health Center) orders.
Types of equipment used include:
Crash cart;
AED;
EKG;
Nebulizer;
Wright’s Peak Flow;
O2 tank;
Autoclaving of instruments.
Perform elephant ear washes, Snellen’s, audiograms; strep throat swabs, rapid flu swabs, etc.
Assist with medication/immunization injections as needed in accordance with protocol.
Prepare patient for procedures and ensure that all the appropriate instructions and equipment are arranged and ready.
May, with appropriate training, assist providers with certain procedures which may include:
Cryotherapy;
Endometrial Biopsy;
Minor surgeries (toenail removal, cyst removal, mole removal, breast biopsies; lesion removal, etc.);
Sonograms;
Casting.
Ensure examination rooms are fully stocked, cleaned, organized, etc.
Ensure the biohazard trash is removed as needed.
Ensure appropriate orders/forms are completed upon provider request; orders/forms include:
In-house Laboratory and X-Ray orders;
Lab-Corps;
SRHC forms (lab, x-ray, sono, etc.).
Order Entry
Assist providers and/or nurses in daily operational activities.
Send EHR messages as delegated by Team Nurse.
Distribute and collect Patient Satisfaction Surveys in accordance with organizational policy.
Attend and participate in meetings as assigned (joint staff, department, etc.).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills Required

Must be able to document in a neat, legible manner and be able to spell medical terminology correctly.

Education and Experience
High school diploma;
1 year experience in a Medical environment (not required but is beneficial);
Certified Nurse's Assistant and/or proof of Medical Assistant degree preferred, but not required;
Computer and typing skills;
Knowledge of patient education principals;
Must have and maintain CPR certification;
Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient and employee-base.
