CLASS DESCRIPTION:
The Baltimore City Health Department’s STD Prevention & Acute Communicable Disease (ACD) Program has expanded its Hepatitis programs with the increase of federal funding for next five years. It will be our mission to develop outbreak surveillance response planning, core viral hepatitis prevention planning and improving access to our mobile treatment center in settings that disproportionately affected by drug use. We are looking for a data entry person to help us meet the program’s requirements by maintaining data, providing clerical tasks, surveillance quality improvement and assurance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Enters and retrieves information using the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDDS) and receives and reviews outside lab reports private, commercial, and hospital-based labs.
Reviews Hepatitis A, B, and C data and makes routine corrections.
Assist with program evaluation activities for additional grants as needed.
Work with Hepatitis Epidemiologist in generating data reports in preparation for CDC Site visits and individual and regional calls.
Coordinating with the Viral Hepatitis Coordinator and ACD Manager.
Other duties as determined by the Director of Acute Communicable Diseases.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the principles and practices of the biomedical sciences and public health.
Knowledge of the objectives, scope, and functions of Federal, State and local health laws and regulations that apply to public health.
Knowledge of interviewing and investigating techniques used in the epidemiology of human disease, of the methods and practices for the control of human disease and of the causes and sources of contagion of communicable human disease.
Ability to prepare and present reports and recommendations clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to exercise initiative, imagination, resourcefulness and sound judgment
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Requirements – Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate and two years of office and administrative support experience using office automated equipment
Preferred- A high school diploma and one year of experience in a related area.
Equivalencies - Equivalent combination of education and experience.
