Job Description
Location: Elite Orthopedics
Schedule: Monday - Friday Daytime hours
Sign on Bonus details: $500 with a 1 year commitment
The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
Checks schedules and organizing patient flow. Accompanies patients to exam/procedure room. Assists patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. Collects patient information/history; takes vitals, performs screenings per provider guidelines. Relays instructions to patients/families.
Sends/receives patient medical records in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
Prepares patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. Cleans exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. Cleans according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records.
Manages inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
Complies with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintains strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Complies with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
Performs phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs. Performs clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Assists physicians with procedures. Documents patient information into the medical record.
Answers calls and provides pertinent information including patient education as directed.
Obtains lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Completes forms/requisitions as needed. Schedules appointments.
Verifies insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepares and manages charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
Other front office responsibilities, as required.
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Successful completion of Medical Assistant program preferred or equivalent hospital program or minimum of one year of direct patient care experience.
Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Act 33 with renewal
Act 34 with renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
