Department: Willow Valley Clinic
Reports To: Willow Valley Clinic Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: 36-40/week
Shift: Days, some evenings, and alternating weekends

WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR FCMC
Our Medical Assistant cares for patients under the direction of a physician. More specifically, the Medical Assistant’s important responsibilities include:
- Obtaining and documenting patient history and reason for seeking care in Electronic Medical Record (EMR); entering provider orders into EMR as authorized; and reviewing patient EMR prior to scheduled appointments
- Preparing for and assisting the physician or provider with in-office procedures
- Performing medical office functions, including: ear irrigation, peak flow meters, venipuncture, injections or immunizations, in-house labs, and preparing biopsy specimens
- Communicating with patients over the phone to assess, give instruction, and provide test results
- Assisting the provider with patient education including results of lab and x-ray reports, proper diet and exercise, and laboratory and radiology preparation
- Maintaining work area, including sterilizing equipment, stocking medical supplies, and maintaining exam rooms
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of accredited medical assistant program
- 1 year of experience in an office environment is preferred
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding procedures
- Knowledge of medications and injection procedures
Essential Job Functions:
- Regular and predictable attendance is required
- Adequate hearing and speaking to communicate in person and over the telephone; able to use stethoscopes and respond to verbal questions
- Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens
- Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients
- Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service, such as injections
- Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, and standing, walking, squatting, and sitting with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift
- Must adhere to HIPAA privacy and security requirements
- Must wear PPE when situations require
- Must submit to COVID-19 testing as required by CMS and other regulatory agencies according to FCMC policy
- Have full COVID-19 vaccination (some exemptions allowed)
Work Environment:
- FCMC operates 24 hours per day each day of the year: operational needs of departments may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the patients
- Potential exposure to blood, body tissue and fluids, contagious diseases, and hazardous waste
