Job Description
General Duties and Responsibilities
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is a member of Columbia River Health (CRH) healthcare team performing clinical and clerical duties necessary to prepare patients for a visit and to make reappointments when necessary. Duties include preparing charts, gathering patient information and performing assigned duties.
A) Specific Duties and Responsibilities
1) Processes patients for providers visit and maintains smooth patient flow throughout the health center.
2) Ensures patient confidentiality and provides patient education and needed information.
3) Assists providers with procedures and exams as needed at providers request.
4) Document visit info at the direction of providers and chaperone for sensitive exams as needed at providers request.
5) Carrying out providers orders
a) Order must be written by providers;
b) CMA takes and completes or communicates with third party to complete that order; the third party receiving the order double checks order with CMA before carrying out order.
c) CMA is still responsible for completion of order.
6) Takes phone calls from patients, pharmacies, etc., process requests and return calls in a timely manner.
7) Administers treatment, as necessary, directed by providers.
8) Coordinates patient referrals and tests.
9) Maintains equipment.
10) Works cooperatively and supportively with all other CRH staff.
11) Performs other necessary duties as required by CRH to achieve the goal of providing primary health care services.

C) Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work is primarily performed in an office environment; may involve reading, writing, proofreading, frequent bending, standing, walking, occasional kneeling, stooping, pushing, pulling, sitting, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Employee shares common exposure to communicable disease.
D) Reporting Relationships
The CMA reports to the medical provider and is supervised and evaluated by the Nursing Director or designee. The CMA has no direct report employees.
E) Evaluation
The evaluation of work performance is ongoing and will be performed by the Nursing Director or designee. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior. Formal evaluation will normally be performed annually, but may be instituted at other times by the employee or supervisor.
F) Qualifications
1) One-year previous experience in health care setting preferred, ideally in an office practice.
2) Basic familiarity with routine medical protocol and terminology.
3) Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.
4) Skills in communication and an affable attitude to accept directions and constructive criticism.
5) Ability to work with staff and patients with warmth and compassion.
6) Bilingual English/Spanish with interpreting skills preferred, but not required.
G) Full Time
1) This is a FLSA non-exempt position
2) This is an OSHA high risk position
3) This is an ADA negotiable position
