CHURCH OF THE CROSSROADS
Bookkeeper Position Description
Status: Independent Contractor
Reports to: Pastor
Hours: Up to 5 hours per week, flexible schedule
Qualifications:
Documented education in bookkeeping.
Previous bookkeeping experience with a non-for profit organization, preferably a church.
Working knowledge of quick books on line
Relationships: Works closely with the church Treasurer and Finance Committee. The Treasurer and accountant may provide task supervision while the Bookkeeper is administratively accountable to the Pastor. This position has a collaborative relationship with the Lay Associate for Administration and the Accountant.
The bookkeeper position creates financial transactions and creates financial reports from that information: The creation of financial transactions includes posting information to QuickBooks or other software from such source documents as mission team invoices, cash and check offerings, receipts, and supplier invoices, and providing reports as requested.

Communication Demands:The position requires excellent listening skills, talking to co-workers, clients, visitors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other work-sites; Ability to communicate via the latest technologies required for the position.
Equipment Needs:
Basic office equipment, including phone, computer, copy machine, calculator
Description of Work Environment:
Work will be indoors in the church office and at home
Basic Functions:
I. Pay supplier invoices in a timely manner
Take all reasonable discounts on supplier invoices
Pay any debt as it comes due for payment
Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
Issue invoices to customers
Ensure that receivables are collected promptly
Record cash and check offerings after depositing to bank accounts
Process reimbursement requests for staff and volunteers.
Maintain an orderly bookkeeping filing system
Track donations from all pledged donors and unplugged donors in QuickBooks or other designated software
Prepare periodic statements of year to date donations to donors
Assist in the implementation and maintenance of internal controls to safeguard church assets.
