Training and Development Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
Do you have a passion for positively impacting the careers of others? J&M Tank Lines is looking for a motivated, self-starter, with a passion for teaching and preparing others for their new role.
The Training and Development Manager will be the first, in-person, representative of J&M our new drivers meet after making a career change. This role will impact every part of the new driver on-boarding process including new hire processes, orientation curriculum, hands-on training, relationship-building and mentoring. Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources and Recruiting , the Training and Development Manager will be responsible for day-to-day management of orientation, creating and adjusting curriculum to fit employee needs and representing the company and its brand.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize and manage daily/weekly orientation classes and curriculum for new hires.
- Help create and modify material as needed.
- Serve as a liaison for new hires during their time in orientation.
- Provide transportation of orientation class to and from hotel, corporate office, medical clinic and training facility daily with company provided passenger van.
- Communicate with other departments on individual’s needs.
- Accountability for all teaching and new hire materials, classroom and hands-on related.
- Execute orientation curriculum in a timely and effective fashion.
- Be able to adjust material and class structure to provide a smooth transition between subjects or topics to be covered.
- Provide hands on training for professional drivers, demonstrating how to effectively and safely load/unload material. (outdoor exposure required)
- Work with other departments and team members to cultivate a positive and quality educational experience for new hires.
- Represent J&M, its mission and core values to the fullest.
- Teach orientation material and curriculum in a group or individual setting.
- Utilize all forms of technology to achieve desired goals.
- Communicate with new and previous orientation classes on daily, weekly or monthly basis as need.
- Provide feedback to team members and other departments regarding progress of new hires
- Survey and evaluate weekly classes: curriculum, driver engagement, driver success rate following orientation, overall orientation experiences.
- In-person role: Monday – Friday 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field, preferred.
- Classroom instruction experience, required.
- Trucking experience, preferred. Tank Truck experience, even better.
- Comfortable with technology and applications such as Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Strong public speaking skills.
- Strong teaching and mentorship traits
- Willingness to learn
- Familiarity with the Smith System driving principles & OSHA regulations, a plus.
- Comfortable working around heavy equipment and outdoors, rain or shine; hot or cold.
- Comfortable working in a traditional office and classroom setting.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
