The Heart Institute at UW Medical Center - Montlake has an outstanding opportunity for a Full-Time, Day Shift, MEDICAL ASSISTANT. The Cardiology Clinic at the UW Heart Institute serves a wide variety of cardiac providers and the patients. The clinic is fast paced and the Medical Assistants (MAs) are integral to the overall functioning of the clinic. As a member of the health care team, the Medical Assistant helps to create a culture of professional excellence and an environment that respects cultural, economic, ethnic and lifestyle differences of patients and staff.
The MA will assist the care team made up of multiple care staff to improve the delivery of patient care. The MA will educate and communicate with the patient in preparation for any diagnostic testing and or treatment such as those offered within the clinic. These include echocardiogram and electrocardiogram services. In addition, patients will need post testing/visit education which can include clerical functions.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Transport patients and monitor condition following interventional procedures
Recognize emergent/urgent problems
Observe and document in the various patient tracking and supply billing systems
Recognize and report symptomalogy of common medical illnesses to physician or nurse
Assist with patient transports to and from floors and surgical specialties areas
Perform minor procedures including sterile dressing changes
Patient exam room turn-around, sterile tray set up
Transport laboratory specimens
Recognize and report abnormal patient events and situations to ECHO/ECG staff
Be present for portions of the pre- and post-patient visit education sessions
Prepare and assist during patient examinations
Monitor patient flow in clinic to assure efficient clinic operations
Schedule new and return appointment in tracking systems
Prepare medical record for clinic visit and document information to complete patient check-in process
Verify presence of medical records and patient bracelets, requesting existing records as necessary
Order medical and clerical supplies and stock examination rooms
Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of all Cardiology/ECHO/ECG and related clinical and diagnostic equipment
Perform related and requested duties as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board or equivalent
Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation within 6-months of hire. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment
Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider CPR card
