Job Description
The role of the Certified Medical Assistant encompasses a multi-skilled health professional working interdependently with other healthcare providers to deliver quality care to all patients. The Certified Medical Assistant must be a problem solver with excellent written/verbal communication and technical skills trained to perform clinical and administrative duties. The successful candidate must also be knowledgeable of health disparities and underserved community health issues. The Certified Medical Assistant must demonstrate a wide degree of flexibility, creativity, time management, and latitude to deliver services and quickly adapt to different age patients – infancy through adulthood. Successful candidates must execute critical thinking, sound judgment, cultural awareness skills and actively function within a team based environment. Character traits such as dependability, trustworthiness, integrity, and team player mentality are consistent with the attributes expected of the incumbent.
Areas of Responsibility
Patient Care and interaction:
Maintains confidentiality of all verbal and written patient information.
Assists with screenings, weighing, measuring patients, preparation of activities, physical examinations, first aid care, or minor injuries.
Conducts patient intake utilizing Whitefoord’s electronic health record and procedures.
Uses appropriate reference materials to ensure proper care and treatment to individuals (i.e. vaccine logs, GRITS, health exam requirements, and others).
Uses phlebotomy skill to obtain and process labs.
Utilizes medical equipment during patient assessments such as EKG, Spirometry, etc.
Provides patient education regarding procedures and treatments.
Reporting and Clerical:
Performs clerical functions, including but not limited to recording health information, entering data into the electronic health record, insurance verification/eligibility, pre-authorizations, utilization of GRITS system, appointment scheduling and missed notices, and patient charting.
Ensures appropriate documentation/clinical administrative functions by adhering to HIPAA, Whitefoord and other health care policies as it relates to the patient’s safety.
Skills and Responsibilities:
High School Diploma
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
Certification or Registered Medical Assistant - current/active
Minimum of 1 year outpatient experience
BLS (can obtain within 3 months)
Results driven and detailed oriented with passion for learning
Excellent written and verbal communication
Proficient at record keeping and reporting
Skilled at working with multi-disciplinary teams and competent in working with diverse customer groups
Perform duties according to established policies of the Health Center, as well as national Health guidelines and policies.
Periodically travel between practices.
Periodically attend meetings hosted by other agencies (where applicable).
Fill in at Patient Access Registration when short staffed as needed.
Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00
