Job Description

The agency is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Medical Assistant for our HIV / AIDS program.

Under general supervision, performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of the physician on duty. Handles front office duties which include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding for insurance purposes. Assists in the clinic by taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, and drawing blood.
- Records patients' medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records.
- Performs front office duties which include patient intake, screening, taking payments, answering the telephone, and scheduling appointments.
- Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
- Interviews patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
- Prepares and administers medications as directed by a physician.
- Shows patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
- Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physicians' instructions to patients.
- Collects blood or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens.
Vocational/Technical degree in medical assisting from an accredited college AND One year of related experience OR High school diploma or GED AND Two years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
\* Certification from and accredited school/program in Medical Assisting
- Phlebotomy experience
- Excellent customer-focused interpersonal skills to interact in an effective manner with practitioners, the interdisciplinary health care team, community agencies, patients, and families with diverse opinions, values, and religious and cultural ideals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English
- Excellent computer skills, experience with electronic medical records a plus.
- Ability to maintain HIPAA compliance, corporate compliance, and client confidentiality.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
