Summary:
The System Administrator will oversee the stability, integrity and efficient operation of the in-house information system servers and associated cloud services. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems.
Responsibilities:
The System Administrator is responsible for all in-house and associated cloud-based servers, systems, and hardware. Specific responsibilities within this scope are ensuring system stability, security and integrity; collaboration with IT staff to ensure proper and smooth operation of all systems; manage security functions including disaster recovery procedures; prepare and maintain documentation for all systems, coordinate system updates and upgrades; and work with all other IT staff to ensure all IT resources are functioning correctly and efficiently. This position reports to the Enterprise Data Coordinator and works closely with all IT staff to achieve departmental goals.
The System Administrator Is responsible for the smooth operation of Linux, Windows based servers and associated cloud-based services. These servers provide services to the entire campus population, including 700+ employees and 4000+ students.
Essential Duties
Essential Duties:
- Manage and administer multiple servers and other operating systems.
- Manage and ensure the integrity of servers, multiple databases and data transfer.
- Monitor server infrastructure for vulnerabilities and work with appropriate teams and vendors to mitigate.
- Manage email and collaboration environment and related archives.
- Collaborate with enterprise, network and desktop staff and other departments to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems.
- Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures and work with Data Center Coordinator to develop and implement disaster recovery procedures.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes and service records.
- Assess need for any system reconfigurations and execute them if necessary.
- Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
- Recommend, schedule and perform software improvements and upgrades.
- Work with enterprise staff to ensure that servers and cloud services are functioning properly, and have adequate resources available for applications.
- Willingness to participate in training and professional development activities.
- Assist the Information Technology team as needed.
- May be required to occasionally work hours outside of normal working hours
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution in an information technology or computer science-related field, with 3 years relevant work experience, OR a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience
- Working knowledge of current operating systems (Windows and/or Linux)
- Experience with systems planning, security principles and general software management best practices
- Knowledge of Cloud-based resources and challenges
- Understanding of Cyber Security
- Work experience in an enterprise IT environment
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communications skills
- Experience with technical writing
- Ability to communicate ideas is both technical and user-friendly language
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Understanding of storage principles and backup procedures
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in an IT-related field (computer science, business information systems, etc.)
- Experience with Voice Over IP protocols, Physical Access Control Systems, and Surveillance Systems
