Job Description
The Help Desk Specialist for COIPA Clinical Applications will be a key support role within the organization, reporting to the Director of Clinical Applications. This individual will be responsible for managing user accounts in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, ensuring proper security permissions based on user roles, and handling the creation and deactivation of user accounts in compliance with HIPAA regulations. The Help Desk Specialist will also assign and track basic user training courses according to roles within the clinical applications, assisting in the onboarding process for new users. This position is primarily remote, with occasional on-site clinic support as needed.
In addition to account management, this role will provide front-line support for clinics using Epic Garden Plot, troubleshooting basic user-reported issues with the EMR system. The Help Desk Specialist will document issues thoroughly, gathering necessary details for analysts to resolve more complex problems and ensuring clear communication with users throughout the process. They will also manage help desk requests, ensuring that tickets are accurately logged, assigned to other team members, and contain sufficient detail for technical teams to address efficiently.
The position requires strong critical thinking, troubleshooting skills, and excellent customer service abilities to support practices effectively. The Help Desk Specialist will ensure that all user activities, permissions, and training are documented and compliant with HIPAA regulations. Although the role is focused on clinical applications and not general IT support, the individual will collaborate closely with other teams to ensure the smooth operation of clinical systems. This position offers opportunities for professional growth and development within the Clinical Applications Department, with the potential for advancement into more specialized roles. A high school diploma is required, with an associate’s degree in a related field preferred, and prior experience in application help desk support or healthcare IT is a plus. Must maintain an active Epic security management certification. Strong communication, organizational skills, and a willingness to learn are essential for success in this role.
