Job Type: Full Time Non-Exempt, 40 hours per week
Hiring Compensation Range: Grade 29, Steps 3-5 ($29.69 - $31.19) per hour
Location: Miramonte Building (Telluride, CO)
POSITION SUMMARY
The Full-time, non-exempt IT Support Technician is responsible for managing the county’s IT Department requests from staff. Plans and schedules the development, production and processing of the county’s computer operations. Recommends insights that contribute to overall organization strategic management.
The position will report directly to the Technical Support Analyst and will be compensated at a Grade 29.As a full-time position, the IT Support Technician is eligible for all County-sponsored insurance and benefit plans as summarized in SMC 2024 Summary of Benefits, subject to applicable waiting periods.
The position will be primarily based out of the County’s Miramonte Building in Telluride, Colorado, and travels to all county locations in San Miguel County for all technical reasons when needed.
Supervision Received: Receives direct supervision from the Technical Support Analyst and may at times receive direction from the IT Director.
Supervision Exercised: This position possesses no supervisory responsibilities but will require frequent interaction with the San Miguel County staff including the Sheriff’s Office and the general public.
JOB DESCRIPTION

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to, the following:
● Performs a variety of computer, telecom, and network systems administration and support tasks, including but not limited to: analyzing, constructing, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting of PC hardware, operating systems, software applications, peripherals, and communications devices.
● Performs on-site tech, on-call 24x7 support for all County Departments including 911 dispatch
● Installs operating system software, upgrades, and repairs
● Completes routine checks on the computers, software, and critical network infrastructure to ensure they are working correctly.
● Implements backup systems; troubleshoots any immediate computer problems.
● Monitors and manages computer system performance, disk space utilization, and archives data files in conjunction with departmental regulations regarding management regulations.
● Performs security checks on computer system and customizes work management functions including user profiles, message and job queues, subsystem descriptions, and job routing descriptions in order to best utilize computer system capabilities
● Follows oral and written instructions.
● Confers with supervisor and department representatives to determine information requirements, to assign priorities for projects, and to discuss changes to the computer system and local area network
● Recommends, prepares, and solicits proposals for hardware and software solutions and coordinates with department representatives and vendors to solve problems
● Diagnoses and corrects program errors in the software applications and contacts vendors for problems related to vendor-supplied software
● Assists in the training of the staff in the use of computer hardware and software and assists the staff in solving computer-related problems.
● Uses a content management system to manage updates, additions, and deletions on the county website
● Researches current security trends and develops strategies to mitigate against potential risks
● Manages remote connectivity for all staff
● Assists departments with updating their pages, documents, and time-sensitive postings, including the active solicitation of content from departments. Provides technical support for staff using Content Management Systems (CMS)
● Oversees adherence to website design and style, as well as appropriate language, content placement, and accessibility standards
● Posts timely, appropriate and informative content on the county’s social media outlets.
● Install and maintain all audiovisual hardware and software systems countywide
● Install and maintain facility security infrastructure including surveillance and door locks
● Travels to all county locations for all technical reasons when needed.
● Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
●Knowledge of Windows operating systems, software applications, local and wide area networks, and micro-systems hardware
●Knowledge of domain name systems, dynamic host configuration protocols, active directories, and manages users in directories
● Knowledge of and experience with network security systems
● Possesses an extremely high level of attention to detail.
●Ability to troubleshoot microcomputer systems, maintain existing software, and implement backup recovery systems
●Ability to configure networks using TCP/IP parameters, network testing tools, and network address translation
●Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and vendors

● Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally as well as in a variety of written formats, including live and virtual presentations.
● Must be extremely organized and possess the ability to manage multiple tasks and reprioritize workflow and assignments as work situations and needs change.

● Must be honest, truthful, positive, and trustworthy and possess a high degree of personal integrity.
● Ability to speak one or more foreign languages, particularly Spanish is preferred but not required.
DESIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
● Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field that has included course work in computers from an accredited college or university.
● Two (2) to four (4) years of previous experience in a computer-related field
● An equivalent combination of education and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of the position.
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
● Must possess or be able to obtain within 6 months of employment the following certifications: (Recertification required every two years)
1. Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Certification
2. HIPPA Security and Awareness Certification
● Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- As part of your duties as a county employee, you may be called upon to perform duties outside your day-to-day activities in order to support county emergency operations. All county employees are required to complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within the first 6 months of employment.
- Must be able to satisfactorily pass a comprehensive, pre-employment criminal background and motor vehicle check.
