Job Description
SUMMARY:
The Training Manager, under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer will be responsible for the proper training of designated employees according to local, state, federal and Chatham
Area Transit Authority (CAT) policies and programs. This position manages all union and nonunion classroom education programs, staff, workflow, and meetings. The Training Manager also
oversees and schedules all driver training activities including the administration of recruit CDL licensing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees ongoing refinement and implementation of Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program including fixed route classroom, pre-trip bus inspection, and in the field driver training that will
lead to new recruits’ acquisition of a CDL license.
- Manages scheduling and implementation of para transit, micro transit, and related on demand classroom training for new recruits. Also coordinates upon request refresher training for existing operators.
- Uses knowledge of adult learning principles, training needs analysis, and curriculum design for quality control and to ensure consistency in the delivery of services to new recruits.
- Engages and develops relationships with non-profits and select CAT vendors to teach financial literacy, self-development, customer service and related subject matter classes to
the workforce as an employee benefit and for modified work duty purposes.
- Supervises workflow, GDOT data entry, and maintenance of recruit and existing operator training files. Also, coordinates maintenance of accident retraining documentation as needed.
- Prepares annual department budget in association with CAO. Also, manages approved department budget and expenditures commensurate with CAT policy and guidelines.
- Works in concert with the CAT's Operations Division and Safety Department as it relates coordination of post-accident retraining.
- Collaborates with HR Department to ensure workers comp return to work classroom training is administered according to CAT and insurance carrier guidelines..
- Communicate effectively in writing, orally and via presentation as needed with internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinates scheduling of union membership presentations for all recruit classes.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises all Training Department employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities including planning, assigning, and directing work, as it relates to training functions; Provides performance, reward, and discipline
recommendations regarding employees. Addresses complaints and resolves problems. Ensures that other supervisory and support staff follow necessary administrative, compliance, and related training curriculum.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Four-year college degree or equivalent technical school academic training focusing on transportation industry and instructional design preferred.
A minimum combination of seven (7) years of bus fixed route or related classroom instruction, bus operator experience, CDL examination background, and industry standard transportation trainer
certification(s) will be considered as well.
- Minimum three (3) years of supervisory or managerial experience leading a team of trainers and or related subordinate employees.
- Experience developing, coordinating, and implementing classroom adult instructional content in a union environment is highly desired.
- Ability to pass a drug test, I-9, criminal background check, DOT physical and satisfactory MVR results required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have Class B or higher Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement plus no air brakes restriction for two or more years. Transportation trainer certification required or must complete
and pass industry standard coursework to become certified within six (6) months of employment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on one and in small group situations to
customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. English required, bilingual skills (specifically Spanish) a plus.
REASONING SKILLS:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in wide ranging situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS - Intermediate level computer skills, including but not limited to working
knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, internet, and Munis ERP software.

Pay: $64,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
