- Job Overview:
The Health Screener will play a vital role in creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere for patients and visitors at the KCVA facility. The primary responsibilities include providing COVID-19 screening, offering wayfinding assistance, and escorting patients and guests to their designated Inpatient and Outpatient clinic locations. The role requires exceptional customer service skills, critical thinking abilities, and physical stamina to ensure a seamless and caring experience for all individuals navigating the facility.

Kansas City VA Medical Center, 4801 Linwood Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64128, United States.
- Note:
This position is offered under a 1099 independent contractor arrangement.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcome patients and guests with a friendly demeanor and polite greeting, maintaining a caring yet efficient atmosphere.
- Conduct COVID-19 screening procedures at the entrance of the facility.
- Provide wayfinding assistance to help patients and guests navigate the facility, including escorting them to various locations such as parking lots, bus stops, exam rooms, Inpatient and Outpatient clinics, and the Emergency Department.
- Assist patients and guests who require transportation, utilizing wheelchairs, stretchers, or hospital beds.
- Transfer patients from personal vehicles into the facility, which may involve the use of mechanical lifts.
- Escort lab supplies, pharmacy supplies/medications, logistics supplies, and prosthetic devices throughout the KCVA facility.
- Use critical thinking skills to address urgent patient and visitor needs, escalating issues to VA medical professionals when necessary.
- Maintain a high level of reliability, being accountable for all assigned tasks and duties.
- Ensure adherence to all facility protocols, especially related to COVID-19 safety measures.
- Fluent communication in English, with the ability to communicate effectively in Spanish or other languages as needed.
- Maintain a drug-free status and uphold a record free of disqualifying crimes.
- Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Clean Criminal record in the past 7 years in order to Successful complete the background check.
- Physical ability to lift or carry a minimum of 51 pounds.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods, exceeding 8 hours.
- Excellent customer service skills to assist and resolve customer issues.
- Proficient reading, writing, and speaking skills in English; secondary language skills in Spanish or other languages is a plus.
- Demonstrated reliability and accountability in performing duties.
- Ability to follow all protocols and safety measures, especially related to COVID-19.
- Commitment to maintaining a drug-free status and a record free of disqualifying crimes.
- Work Environment:
The HealthScreener will work within the KCVA facility, primarily providing escort services, COVID-19 screening, and wayfinding assistance to patients and visitors. The role involves frequent interaction with patients, visitors, and medical professionals. The work environment requires the ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry objects as specified in the requirements.
