Position Summary
This is a managerial and leadership position responsible for executing processes and physical solutions for security systems, access controls, key and lock systems, student disability systems, and equipment within University Housing facilities. General duties include developing, negotiating and executing the department’s strategies for security and student disability accommodations. Duties also include overseeing the maintenance of current physical assets, process controls, key and lock systems, documentation procedures and supervision of assigned personnel. Assigned personnel includes three locksmiths, one low voltage technician, one utility worker (entry level) and student assistant positions. This position will suggest and implement process improvements, identify faults and security concerns, and participate in activities to improve departmental security and student disability accommodation solutions.

Duties/Responsibilities
Personnel Supervision and Strategic Security Oversight - 50%
- Supervise locksmiths, utility workers, low voltage technician and maintenance assistants; this includes employment selection and training.
- Identify process improvements associated with shop activities that bolster defendable documentation.
- Represent the department regarding security systems during strategic exercises. This includes new construction, major renovations and systems upgrades.
- Schedule and perform routine preventative maintenance activities to minimize security system vulnerabilities. Routinely evaluate the effectiveness of current solutions, report perceived deficiencies, and recommended solutions to departmental administration.
- Advise and assist with security improvements when determined. Lead discussions with departmental administration and stakeholders regarding security systems. Implement approved improvements and changes.
- Actively promotes and participates in the development, retention & engagement of each staff member
Systems, Parts, Supplies, and Tools – 40%
- Maintain an inventory of parts, supplies and tools necessary to support the maintenance for University Housing’s lock/key, student accommodations, electronic access control and other security systems replacement program.
- Oversee, maintain and continually improve all business platforms which include multiple databases and access controls utilized for key and electronic code tracking purposes.
- Programming stand-alone electronic locks with proprietary Schlage HHD.
- Provide support and oversight of access control systems.
Other Duties – 10%
- Provide on-call training for maintenance personnel to service key and access control systems after-hours.
- Oversee the issue and transfer of University Housing’s employee’s keys.
- Remain knowledgeable of workplace rules and guidelines and stay in compliance with UGA policies and procedures
- Effectively communicate and collaborate in a professional and consistent manner with a wide variety of individuals or groups such as residential building services workers, residence hall staff, students/families and other maintenance team members via radio, telephone, or in person.
- Perform related work as required based on duties consistent with the purpose of the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field.
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Five years relevant leadership experience working within higher education, hospitality or medical facilities.
- Five years of experience with database management and process development.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:
- Knowledge and skills in the use of tools, equipment and practices used in the locksmith trade. This includes the operating principles of a variety of lock and key systems.
- Knowledge of low voltage electrical building entrance systems and related components.
- Knowledge of security philosophies and techniques for evaluating vulnerabilities.
- Skilled in developing and accurately organizing recordkeeping and inventory systems.
- Ability to maintain good professional relationships with staff, residents and various customer groups, and demonstrates supportive involvement in work environment.
- Ability to work as a team leader, but also to make effective independent decisions and follow through on assignments.
- Skilled in developing procedures, training procedural changes and negotiating improvements with a variety of personnel (from administration to frontlines).
- Efficiently utilize a variety of computer applications in the completion of assigned tasks.
- Communicate verbally and in writing to wide variety of constituent groups via telephone, computer, or in person.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 per year
