Job Description
The Security Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of security and safety within the hotel property and grounds to ensure the safety and protection of guests, employees, and property assets. This role involves the development and implementation of security policies and procedures, managing security staff, and liaising with law enforcement agencies when necessary. The Security Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the hotel’s reputation for excellence and providing a comfortable and secure environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Security Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive security strategy aligned with the hotel’s culture, values, and objectives. This includes, but not limited to risk assessment and security plans to safeguard all persons and property within or associated with the hotel.
- Policies and Procedures: Establish, train and enforce processes ensuring that these adhere to industry standards and legal requirements. Continuously review and update protocols to address emerging threats on a local, national, and worldwide scale.
- Security Staff: Recruit, train, and supervise security employees on all aspects of responsibility, including but not limited to building patrol, surveillance, emergency response, day-to-day task management. Provide leadership and guidance, demonstrating the highest level of professionalism and performance.
- Guest and Employee Safety: Ensure a safe environment for guests and employees by maintaining a visible security presence and prompt response to concerns, incidents, and emergencies.
- Crisis Management: Develop, train, implement the crisis and emergency response plan including fire, natural disaster, and medical emergencies. Conduct regular drills and training to prepare employees for potential scenarios.
- Surveillance and Technology: Provide oversight of security technology including surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarms. Ensure proper functioning, while working with vendor or property facilities department to ensure operation and maintenance. Source and vet new technology within the hospitality, security space which may be applicable to the hotel.
- Investigations: Conduct, train, and provide oversight into incidents or policy breaches. Collaborate with local law enforcement when necessary. Ensure designated property and corporate leadership are quickly made aware of incidents of certain magnitude.
- Vendor and contractor management: Manage relationships with security service providers, contractors, and vendors. Ensure that contracted services meet quality and security standards.
- Security Budget: Develop, submit, and manage the final approved security department’s budget, including but not limited to equipment procurement, labor cost, training expenses.
- Compliance: Stay updated on local, state, and federal security regulations, ensuring the hotel’s security practices are compliant.
- Guest Services: Collaborate with all hotel departments to ensure that security measures do not compromise guest experience and service quality.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred such as security management or criminal justice.
- Previous experience in security, with a strong preference for candidates with prior experience in a luxury hotel or hospitality setting.
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing security in the hospitality industry.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Certification in security management or related field may be preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
