Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Responsible for safe transport of materials to and from the retail stores. To ensure the daily transportation of used goods, new goods, salvage, and trash. Helps coordinate the storage of donations, when necessary. May occasionally supervise and train community service workers and new material handlers. Drivers supervise material handlers when on assignment outside the plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensures proper customer service to donors, customers, employees, and supervisors. Projects a positive company through pleasant customer service and proper clean appearance.
2. Maintains transportation logs as instructed. Ensures that all appropriate transportation logs are properly utilized and submitted to management.
3. Works with the Transportation Manager to coordinate the daily scheduling and routing of trucks. Ensures that trucks are safe and adequately stocked on a daily basis.
4. Involved in the daily collection and transportation of salvage material, supplies, trash, and waste materials from stores and the plant. Returns salvage merchandise from the stores.
5. Monitors and advises Transportation Manager of the need to order supplies as needed.
6. Helps keep the plant clean and hazard-free.
7. Drives a truck in a safe and efficient manner, complying with all state, federal, and local driving laws, as necessary.
8. Picks up and delivers donations and trash from donors, donation centers, and stores, as instructed.
Works as a material handler in the plant as needed.
9. General preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
10. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc, plus 4 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read a limited number of words and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers; Ability to write and speak simple sentences as a means for basic communication.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid state driver's license and be insurable by the company's insurance carrier. Must be able to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
