Job Description
We are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic Assistant Publisher to join our growing Partner Publishing team on a full-time, permanent basis. The Assistant Publisher role is a fantastic opportunity to get a broad experience in science journals publishing in a fast-paced, highly motivated team and to embark on a successful career in this industry.
Role Summary
As an Assistant Publisher you will provide administrative and analytical support across a number of areas including content development and strategy, title and partnership management and coordination for the Partner Publishing team so that we can continue to provide outstanding journal publishing services to researchers and research organizations worldwide.
What will you be doing?
Key job accountabilities include:
- Acting as the first point of contact for external stakeholders - answering and escalating queries from partner organizations, editors, and authors.
- Providing administrative and project support to the Partner Publishing team, including coordination of meetings with editorial boards and partner organizations.
- Coordinate reporting on key journal metrics and provide updates, analysis and recommendations to the Publishers and external stakeholders.
- Assist with data retrieval for custom reporting and analysis for journal strategies, by using both internal reporting systems and external resources.
- Help implement continuous improvement to processes and systems.
- Carry out desk-based commissioning for a list of journals, in line with journal commissioning plans
- Keep databases, as well as commissioning and contact databases up to date to ensure accuracy of information and effective communication.
About you:
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- An awareness of the role of academic research journals, as well as interest in scientific developments.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to work effectively with internal colleagues and external stakeholders (authors, referees, editors, board members and society partners).
- Strong working knowledge of Excel.
- Strong customer service ethos.
- An ability to work autonomously and also as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Well-developed analytical skills with the ability to independently solve problems.
- Publishing experience in STM publishing (books or journals) is desirable but not essential.
