Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Chief Development and Communications Officer and in collaboration with the Development Director, the Marketing and Communications Manager will strategize and manage the communications and materials for agency wide and philanthropic events, public relations, and marketing/communications activities. Responsible for the branding and creation of the annual reports, donor newsletters, digital and printed materials and communications for fundraising efforts and events, including the annual Gala. The Marketing and Communications Manager will supervise the Communications Associate.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Develop and implement marketing and communications strategies as well as create designs and messaging to increase awareness of Asian Health Services and improve engagement with community and donors.
Work with the Development Director to develop and implement communications strategies, campaigns, and marketing materials that support the strengthening of long-term relationships with major donors and the cultivating of new supporters.
Implement strategies and create digital and printed communications and materials that support fundraising events and efforts, including donor cultivation events, annual fundraising events, and open houses. Support fundraising events, as needed.
Implement strategies and create communications and digital and printed materials that support agency-wide efforts and events. Support community events, as needed.
Ensure quality and consistency of materials and communications across print and electronic formats, including developing AHS style guidelines.
Prepare and edit communications pieces for the CEO and other leadership staff as needed, including speeches, articles, editorials, etc.
Oversee and manage social media efforts and strategies as well as the design, production, and dissemination of online materials and campaigns to engage donors and community members.
Manage the updating, maintaining and improving of the agency website, including the AHS blog.
Lead and streamline agency-wide communications efforts in collaboration with other communications leads in various AHS departments and programs.
Manage, write, and distribute internal agency-wide communications efforts, including the monthly staff newsletter that goes to more than 600 staff members.
Develop, implement, and manage public relations and mainstream media distribution and outreach, including proactively pitching stories, organizing media opportunities, and engaging diverse audiences.
Serve as the first point of contact for media inquiries, as well as develop and strengthen press relationships.
Write and edit communications content, including media materials, brochures, annual reports, fact sheets, press releases, advocacy campaigns, and fundraising e-blasts, newsletters, toolkits, and other publications.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the day to day supervision of the Communication Associate and other development support staff; conducts regular performance evaluations and fosters staff professional growth.
Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new development staff and consultants, as needed.
In consultation with the Chief Development and Communications Officer and Human Resources, conducts managerial responsibilities by the organization's policies and applicable laws including interviewing and hiring of employees; planning, assigning, scheduling, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
GENERAL AGENCY/AHS DUTIES:
Fosters an environment that promotes trust and cooperation among clients and staff.
Enforces clinic policies and procedures, including maintenance of client confidentiality under HIPAA privacy rules, to ensure that the principles of AHS are implemented.
Plays an active role in planning organization-wide activities such as AHS general membership meetings, fundraisers, special clinic days, and other events.
Participates in general membership meetings, fundraisers, and other public events, as required.
Participates in outreach activities, agency advocacy, and serves on ad hoc committees, as requested.
Attends AHS staff retreats and Board of Directors meetings, as required.
Participates in agency-wide quality improvement program processes and performance improvement teams to ensure excellence in the quality of services provided across the agency.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BA degree in a related field
Three to five years experience in marketing and/or communications, including public relations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Three or more years of experience working in a creative or public relations agency or in nonprofit.
Three to five years of marketing and/or graphic design experience.
Knowledge and experience working in the Asian American community
Bilingual/Bicultural in an Asian language/culture.
Master’s degree (M.A.) preferred
Valid California Driver’s License, insurance, and ability to travel as required to perform duties.
