Position Focus:
Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Faculty Development and Outreach, serves as the project manager for developing and maintaining websites for the FAS’s 40+ departments and programs. Plans and updates website content, structure, and graphic elements. Works with department leadership and staff to update and upgrade websites, and to ensure consistency and accuracy of information across all FAS websites. Provides recommendations and implements technology policy, strategy, and solutions for FAS departments and programs within the context of institutional requirements and policies. Represents the FAS to institutional technical teams and is responsible for partnering with central administrative peers and units to initiate, analyze, design, and deploy web processes, policies, procedures and tools for the FAS. Ensures a consistent and up-to-date web presence across the FAS’s many websites by developing and applying style guidelines. Gathers data on website usage in the FAS, evaluates website needs and trends, and recommends new approaches and improvements as needed.
Essential Duties: 1. Supports the development and maintenance of FAS department and program websites. 2. Consults with department staff and faculty on web development needs and goals. 3. Utilizes Yale’s content management system, YaleSites, to ensure content on FAS websites is relevant, up-to date, presented effectively, and accessible. 4. Serves as liaison between the FAS Dean’s Office, FAS departments, and the YaleSites team. 5. Provides formal web-development recommendations to departments based on ability to meet financial, technical and scheduling deadlines in varied units. 6. Develops and communicates web design guidelines and best practices within the FAS. 7. Identifies opportunities for content additions, improvements, and innovations and participates in UX research to identify opportunities for enhancements and optimizations. 8. Manages complex projects involving technical and non-technical staff from multiple FAS. 9. Departments 10. Partners with ITS and external vendors to execute website enhancements and modifications. 15. May perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties
1. Defines site objectives by analyzing user requirements and expectations; envisioning system features and functionality. 2. Participates in the design and development of user interfaces to Internet/intranet applications by setting expectations and features priorities throughout development life cycle; determining design methodologies and tool sets; completing programming using languages and software products; designing and conducting tests. 3. Recommends system solutions by comparing advantages and disadvantages of custom development and purchase alternatives. 4. Integrates applications by designing database architecture and server scripting; studying and establishing connectivity with network systems, search engines, and information servers. 5. Creates multimedia applications by using authoring tools. 6. Completes applications development by coordinating requirements, schedules, and activities; contributing to team meetings; troubleshooting development and production problems across multiple environments and operating platforms. 7. Supports users by developing documentation and assistance tools. 8. Updates job knowledge by researching new internet/intranet technologies and software products; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and a minimum of two years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Knowledge of HTML5, CSS, Drupal (Versions 7 and 9), Wordpress, Adobe Creative Suite, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Strong written and oral communication skills; proven ability to articulate ideas in verbal and written communications to a variety of audiences and stakeholders.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to work with faculty, staff, and administrators.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Self-starter with strong work ethic, ability working on deadlines. Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in an organized and productive manner.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Previous experience with the YaleSites Drupal platform and experience working in a higher education environment is a plus.
