Salary Range: $23.03 - $26.24 hourly
Job Summary:
The Asset Technician (Seasonal) is responsible for data collection of water and sewer infrastructure in the field; digitizing maps; and spreadsheet data entry. The incumbent will operate an iPad and high accuracy GPS unit to verify and collect geospatial data for water and sewer projects and initiatives. This position may also include GIS mapping using ArcGIS Pro and database management through Microsoft Excel. Communication with a team and between departments is an essential part of this role. Candidates will be self-starting, detail-oriented, willing to learn new skills, and can work independently.
This is a seasonal position from approximately July – November 2023.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
Certification in GIS or demonstrated proficiency using ESRI ArcGIS software suite preferred.
Experience using spreadsheets, databases, and word processing operations (MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Working knowledge and understanding of cartographic rules and principles.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
Understanding of water or wastewater systems preferred.
Current driver’s license required.
Ability to work outside for extended periods of time.
Ability to learn construction site safety best practices.
Essential Functions:
Willing to learn City of Greeley Asset Management standards and practices.
Assist in day-to-day operation of the existing Water & Sewer Asset Management program.
Communicate in person and by telephone with both individuals and groups.
Enter data completely and accurately into a computer system using keyboards, scanners, high accuracy GPS receivers, and/or tablets.
Use and interpret blueprints, schematics, layouts, maps, and other visual aids.
Receive and interpret instructions and assignments, written or verbal.
Comprehend and make inferences from written material.
Operate a variety of computer equipment and software packages.
Using GIS tools in conjunction with map graphics, map scale, and real-world coordinate systems
Track and capture data associated with the utility systems.
Work independently as well as with others.
Work under the guidance of the Asset Management team.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Subject to both outside and inside environment with protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
Subject to driving City vehicle in all weather conditions.
Subject to working alone and/or with groups and/or attends meetings.
May be required to wear protective clothing or gear.
May be required to travel with associated risks inherent to travel by car.
Spends extended periods of time outdoors.
May be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings.
May be required to work overtime, and an option to work holidays, evenings, or weekends.
Frequent interruptions and required to manage competing priorities with inflexible deadlines.
May have frequent contact with the public-in person, via email/telephone; sometimes facing adverse or confrontational situations with internal/external customers.
The essential functions of this job require occasional balancing, bending/stooping, carrying/lifting light to heavy objects, and standing; frequent climbing stairs, feeling, grasping, hearing, reaching, repetitive motion, talking, and walking.
Close visual acuity required to perform an activity such as: visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices-graphs and gauges.
Visual acuity required for close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Visual acuity required to operate motor vehicles.
