Job Description
Summary: Maynard Nexsen Business Development Manager will support the Firm’s attorneys and practice groups in their business development, marketing and project management efforts. This candidate will report to the Chief Marketing Officer and will work closely with other team members across our other offices. The Manager will work to ensure effective client development and strategic communications to serve Maynard Nexsen.
Essential Job Functions:
- The Manager will work proactively with Maynard Nexsen practice group leaders and attorneys, seeking opportunities to develop new business and expand existing client business.
- The Manager will actively collaborate among the various practice groups, industry teams, and other service team members to cross-market the firm’s capabilities and attorneys.
- Lead the strategic marketing for assigned practice groups, building rapport and trust with the attorneys in those groups as their business development advisor.
- Research client and prospective client information, as well as competitor information to develop proactive business development strategies, generate new business leads, expansion of existing clients, and identification and pursuit of cross-selling opportunities, including conception of new projects and initiatives.
- Work with attorneys and other team members to develop customized proposals and pitches.
- Be flexible and willing to work after hours if needed to meet deadlines or other immediate project goals.
- Have a team-player mindset, and be willing to assist others on the team for the good of the Firm.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work successfully with multiple team members, interacting with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Competent to handle a variety of activities with attention to detail, quality, and accuracy, with the ability to follow through and follow up, and adapt to quickly meet changing deadlines and priorities.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to complete multiple tasks and a high volume of work on short deadlines and follow through on assigned tasks with limited supervision.
- Retain a high level of flexibility and resourceful problem solving.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
- Ability to respond quickly to changing demands and be self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in journalism, marketing, communications, English or similar field.
- At least 8 years of experience in related professional services field – law firm experience a plus.
- Demonstrated background of accomplishment in business development, public relations, and communications.
- Strong understanding of marketing and communications industry and trends, particularly in the legal market.
- Must demonstrate initiative, be highly organized, able to manage multiple projects while prioritizing work assignments, and able to work well with attorneys and staff at Maynard Nexsen.
- Strong communication, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent writing skills and experience developing and executing communication plans and campaigns.
- High level of accountability on all work product and ability to effectively juggle multiple projects.
- Ability to provide consistent and high quality work product under tight deadlines and other pressures while maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Ability to evaluate opportunities for business development and determine ROI.
- Self-starter; can work well independently or in a team environment.
- Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and GoogleDocs required. Adobe InDesign, Illustrator or Premiere is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $85,000.00 per year
