CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
The Director, Marketing and Licensing at the University of Delaware is a valued member within the University and Delaware Athletics, Community, and Campus Recreation (DACCR), upholding and embracing the department mission of 'Achieving Excellence Together.' The Marketing and Engagement team endeavors to connect and inspire the Delaware Athletics and Recreation community through engagement initiatives, creative content and event experiences with a focus on a deep understanding of the University of Delaware brand and its traditions. Under the general direction of the Senior Associate AD, External Relations, the Director, Marketing and Licensing executes a wide variety of broadly based marketing, licensing and promotional activities for Delaware Athletics, Community and Campus Recreation (inclusive of the UD Ice Arenas and Outdoor Pool).
Additionally, this position will assist with marketing efforts for the Bob Carpenter Center external events, assist with experiences and attendance of the University of Delaware faculty/staff and students at athletic events, and successfully prepositions/enhances the Delaware brand. Successful execution of this role will result in increased revenue and support for Blue Hens Athletics' teams and brand, improved overall attendance at events, increased usage of recreation facilities, and development of school spirit.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marketing & Supervision
Supervise, lead and develop one full-time marketing and engagement staff member who will oversee the following:
Marketing and advertising strategies and gameday execution for Volleyball, Women's Lacrosse, and secondary help for Football and Women's Basketball.
Future Hens Club and on-campus tabling and activation activities (Blue Hen Fridays, 1743 Days, New Student Orientation, etc.).
Upkeep and maintaining of budget for above items assigned to them by the Director, Marketing & Engagement.
Oversee the implementation of weekly, monthly, and annual strategies for print, digital and social media engagement of team sport activities assigned to self and direct report.
Assign lead marketing and gameday interns to select on-campus engagement events.
Serve as the primary contact in the execution of game presentation, marketing strategies, ticket initiatives, fan engagement efforts, sponsorship activation and scripting for Football for the purpose of encouraging increased renewal retention, attendance, revenues and gameday atmosphere.
Execute planned assets that include, but are not limited to, emails, social graphics, signage, print and digital promotional items for Football.
Upkeep and maintain budget established by Director, Marketing & Engagement for promotional items and digital marketing efforts for Football.
Coordinate and communicate with licensed vendors for the production of promotional goods and materials.
Support the Marketing & Engagement team with the coordination of UD spirit programs and UD Marching Band at Delaware Athletics events.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Game Presentation
Serve as the primary contact for overall game presentation outlook for all 21 varsity sports.
Serve as a one of Delaware Athletics Daktronics representatives, assisting with the creation of videoboard programming and layouts, generating effective, user-friendly layouts within Show Control and Content Studio of all Daktronics computers, and coordinating with Daktronics representatives for trainings or assistance on technical or programming issues.
Responsible for training current and new staff on basics of Daktronics to be able to run any event at any Delaware Athletics venue containing Daktronics for both UD related and outside related events.
Collaborate with Multimedia and Creative Design teams to develop unique digital asset templates for enhanced crowd engagement via the videoboard.
Work with Delaware Sports Properties to assist in selling digital ad space on all videoboards in an effort to maximize revenue generation and gameday atmosphere.
Research, coordinate and communicate with vendors for the ideation and production of game presentation assets able to be utilized across multiple sports teams.
Perform market research and create feedback mechanisms (surveys, etc.) in order to improve gameday atmosphere at Delaware Athletics events and initiatives.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Licensing
Serve as the primary licensing contact for Delaware Athletics.
Work with the licensing contact from the UD Office of Communication and Marketing on daily approval and disapproval of all artwork submissions utilizing UD and UD Athletics branding through Collegiate Licensing Company's Brand Manager to upkeep and maintain proper branding.
Work with the licensing contact from the UD Office of Communication and Marketing to continuously upkeep the University of Delaware Brand Guidelines Style Guide.
Work with the licensing contact from the UD Office of Communication and Marketing to upkeep and maintain the UD Brand website with up-to-date brand guidelines, logos, licensed internal and retail vendors, and application process to become a licensed vendor.
Serve as the liaison between the Collegiate Licensing Company and Delaware Athletics, working with them to continue the strategic development of Delaware Athletics' brand through in-venue and e-commerce partners to increase revenue and brand awareness.
Lead the execution of planned assets that include, but are not limited to, emails, social graphics, signage and printed promotional material for licensing and merchandising efforts
Cultivate and maintain partnership with the UD Office of Communication and Marketing and UD Intercollegiate Athletics multimedia departments to ensure consistency of branding and messaging both departmentally and university wide.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree and three years of job-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree in Sports Management, Marketing or related field preferred.
Familiarity with Sidearm, Oracle Eloqua, Brand Manager and Adobe Creative Cloud is desired.
Strong organizational and analytical skills with ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and advance strategic plans and programs that support the Athletic Department mission.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with multiple patrons in a positive and productive manner while maintaining integrity and adhering to the compliance rules of the NCAA and University of Delaware Athletic Department.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, be able to make important and difficult decisions with the Delaware Athletic Department in mind and effectively determine when information needs to be advanced to other decision makers.
Ability to lead a team to the common goal of increased fan experience and revenue generation within all aspects of Marketing & Engagement team responsibilities.
Ability to work in a fast paced, ever-changing environment, with the ability to effectively adapt and be flexible.
Ability to work effectively as part of a positive, team-oriented environment.
